Second Michigan Democrat pleads no contest in ‘fake’ tea party scheme

Since your definition of "stupid stuff" seems to include felonies, how about defending that statement by providing us with an example [[or two) of a state or local Republican party official who has abused their position and been convicted of multiple felonies as a result?

We are lucky in the sense that in Michigan, Repubs for the most part behave themselves so my statement took on more of a national context.

But as we know the exception generally proves the rule. Anyway here's some good bathroom reading for you

Whenever I read a blatantly partisan heading.... I always wonder... gee who could be the OP behind it... it's always a source of amusement when my suspicions are correct....

The books on American history are full of people on both sides of the aisle that have committed crimes of all types. To somehow make this a "look what your side has done" issue is both naiive and silly.

I guess I wasted 2 minutes of my time answering another pointless "tit-for-tat" thread...

Come on, you're a big boy and we all know that you could have either ignored this thread or proved your assertion of it being a "tit-for-tat" thread by providing an example of similar felonies committed by local Republicans. Instead, you took the lazy way out and changed the subject by attempting to play down the seriousness of the crimes and delegitimizing the OP of the thread. Bottom line, you wasted our time with your pointless response.

To make Firstandten and Gistock feel better, I found this instance of illegal behavior by one of the Macomb County 12th District GOP officials [[see link below). However there were no charges filed and no convictions resulted from it. The matter was handled internally and restitution was made.

How about a former Republican Congressman from Michigan being convicted on charges of aiding Islamic terrorism? Is that bad enough for you?

    http://www.mlive.com/news/kalamazoo/...sed_for_m.html

GUILTY on federal felony counts of obstruction of justice and acting as an unregistered foreign agent...all so he could help Islamic terrorists in Pakistan. And he's one of YOURS. And he wasn't some insignificant local politician either, but a former U.S. Congressman.

P.S. Did you forget about L Brooks Patterson and his drunk driving escapades?

At the most, they were convicted of misdemeanor disorderly conduct charges, not felonies.

Hypocrisy is not a crime, just the reflexive "red herring" accusation favored by those on the left.

Well stated. As an independent to a large extent I find the left and right deceptive in trying to ascribe certain motives and policy directives EXCLUSIVE to one party. We are seeing more interchangeability and shape shifting than ever.

The main party afoot is the party of self-interest, interesting in maintaining more power and votes towards retaining said power.

And how could any of us forget about Craig DeRoche! A Republican member of the state House of Representatives, DeRoche served as Speaker of the House from 2005 to 2007 and then as Republican Minority Leader in the House from 2007-2009. Certainly not a small fish in the state GOP.

    Well what did he do?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craig_DeRoche

On February 9. 2010, DeRoche was arrested for drunk driving. He was also observed suspiciously ducking in and out of buildings prior to that, apparently in an effort to conceal evidence from the police. He later plead guilty to misdemeanor charge of impaired driving.

So it's just a little misdemeanor right? No big deal, right? Certainly not as atrocious as the crimes committed by state Democrats, right? Oh wait, there's more!

Drunk AND carrying a gun! AND he violated the terms of his probation from the earlier drunk driving conviction! Another Michigan GOP all-star headed to prison, truly truly sad.

Hey Mikeg, would you like a few more examples of Michigan Republicans running afoul of the law? I have more to share.

Hey aj3647, have at it - I like seeing this thread title getting bumped to the top of the stack! But how about staying on-topic and limiting your examples to Michigan felons who committed their crime while they were holding either party or public office, OK? Hell, Siljander had been out of office 20 years when he committed his crime and he hasn't even lived in Michigan since he left office a quarter-century ago.
