Can anyone on DY help two French students who are searching for memories of the infamous wall in the 8 Mile/Birwood area? They’re looking for anyone who might have lived in the area during the years after the wall went up; anyone with any detailed knowledge of the wall and its surroundings; or any video or written sources about the wall.
The wall, as many know, was built in the pre-World War II era to separate a black neighborhood from a white neighborhood. It still stands, and has become an objet d’art for illustrators.
The students are spending several months in Detroit working on a video documentary. Their groundwork, knowledge of Detroit and feelings for the city are extremely impressive. Check out their bilingual blog, “Detroit, je t’aime, for more information about them and their reporting. http://www.detroitjetaime.com/
