Capitalism is great.
Too bad we have a bunch of political hacks that don't believe in it.
They seem to be interested in maintaining an elected monarchy.

This argument is a total red herring. The computer that Danny [[and all of us) can be manufactured in any type of economy. Computers are not unique to capitalism. We can make computers in all sorts of economic systems. In fact, chances are Danny's computer was made in communist China.Damn, I want what ever Danny is smoking....holy crap!!! That is some good stuff!!! As he [[Danny) types on his Corporate made computer, chowing down on his corporate made food.
You don't have to go to those stores or buy any of those products or services.....But I bet you do!!!!!!! Hypocrite!!!!!
the meeting went great. thanks for asking. we had around 600-800 people show up. the date time and location have changed. Date is October 14, 2011. Location and time: we are meeting at the spirit of detroit at 4pm and will be marching to grand circus park at 6pm. again all are welcome
so trueThis argument is a total red herring. The computer that Danny [[and all of us) can be manufactured in any type of economy. Computers are not unique to capitalism. We can make computers in all sorts of economic systems. In fact, chances are Danny's computer was made in communist China.
innovators like Steve Jobs are free to invent great products here in the United States, to have manufactured by super cheap slave labor in communist China by people that couldn't afford the internet much less the products they are making...
hurray for communism... maybe you and I can work together in the Nike shoe factory, comrade?
Archie McPhee has the Guy Fawkes masks. Pricey at $8 but it's a cool looking mask.
I think you are missing the point...it is not a red herring. The point is that a Major Corporation which you seem to hate is profiting from the very products you all use. So Communist China is only in name, there are more millionairs there than there are here....again GREED!!This argument is a total red herring. The computer that Danny [[and all of us) can be manufactured in any type of economy. Computers are not unique to capitalism. We can make computers in all sorts of economic systems. In fact, chances are Danny's computer was made in communist China.
And as I pointed out to Danny and all of you protesters you all use and love all the greedy corporations and buy and use their products....
Also as I pointed out Danny if you want Socialism....well then move to Cuba, where that exists. We the majority of American do not want that. You call yourselves the 99%ers, yet you do not actually represent the majority.
Do the majority of Americans see corporate greed out of control yes....do we like it no. Is it going to change...maybe a little.
I'll think about you guys when its 20 below and I am in my warm home that was paid for by working for those corporations and my stock dividens.
I just saw Kanye West today side by side with the protestersin NY in his $300 shirt and enough gold around his neck to pay for food to feed a small city......saying he feels your pain.....real nice!!
Now I'm going to watch The Tigers [[Little Ceasers - Greedy) on my nice 55" Sony [[Greedy) TV, while I have a few Buds [[Greedy) and relax on my again Leather couch [[Greedy).......Have a nice time on the streets on the 14th...Rainy and 53 degrees.
Stand up and be seen!!! No guts no glory......don't hide behind a mask, its not Holloween.Archie McPhee has the Guy Fawkes masks. Pricey at $8 but it's a cool looking mask.

Hopefully not, because we're currently seeing the outcome of long-term capitalism. No jobs, no middle class, and a 99% vs. 1% problem.
My hopes would be that these protests result in our own "Arab Spring" and we overthrow the entire worthless system.
and whats the long term prognosis for communism? socialism? whats your ideal and where has it been the panacea on earth?
David Brooks, nice guy but totally predictable from the former editor of the right-wing Weekly Standard and the NYT's token conservative. Hardly man bites dog stuff.Interesting review on this movement in the NY Times today:

Since you represent me [[where is my opt-out from the 99% -- it is like those cheesy class action lawsuits you are automatically enrolled in) - can you let me know what form of government you are advocating on my behalf?
Also - and again, only because you claim to represent me - can you all please shave, clean up and wear something other than hipster jeans and "vintage" t-shirts? I perused the Facebook page of this 'movement' and was dismayed to find myself lumped in with such a Motley and discontented crew.
All this is foreign to me. I hate me some politics and dont especially care for the banks. I can build you a network and administrate it, could fix your computer but I have very little comprehension in terms of how Wall St. is/has screwed us. I kno that people have lost lots of money in the market. It went somewhere tho. Someone/thing has it. Im pretty sure that our initial mess was from unscrupulous lending procedure. AKA bankers being crooks. Didn't we bail them out for hundreds of billions of dollars? Shouldnt they have gone to prison instead? From top to bottom anybody that participated, signed off on it, and the heads at the top. I'm aware that every time something happens somewhere in the world the market flakes out. I for 1 like to keep my money. When the market tanked I didn't lose a dime. Regret not having bought Ford at a buck but still.
Young people in Michigan and Detroit have plenty to be upset over. My entire adult life the state has been in a recession. Probably more of a depression in light of its persistence. Thing about any Occupy Detroit or any Occupy Anywhere. Its going to be a bunch of Trustfund Activists. I dislike them even more than I dislike Trustfund hippies. I rather not Occupy space with them and protest the way i have been. Thru non participation. Pay my credit card bill on time and not borrow from banks.
my 2 cents
Pretty damn funny for a second posting, Detroitdoug. Hey, and maybe a few tons less litter, Occupiers. Your parents will not be there to clean up after you.Since you represent me [[where is my opt-out from the 99% -- it is like those cheesy class action lawsuits you are automatically enrolled in) - can you let me know what form of government you are advocating on my behalf?

China is not communist. It is the most capitalist place in the world. Before Chinese capitalism, there was this idea that capitalism could only exist hand-in-hand with democracy, but we are seeing now that capitalism actually works better without democracy! And this new idea of capitalism without democracy is stretching across the world. Democracy is just this annoying thing in the way of making profits.so true

chinese capitalism is MORE corrupt than what the protesters are fighting against here... you say it working well in china?China is not communist. It is the most capitalist place in the world. from the 2009 human development report
percentage of population in poverty living on less than $1.25 per day China 15.9%, U.S. 0%
percentage of population in poverty living on less than $2,00 per day China 36.3% U.S. 0%
corporations and capitialism in the United States may not be perfect, but for chrissake, don't hold out china as a better example.... [[unless you are trying to prove that corporations can get rich setting up shop there)

I want nothing to do with you and, least of all, to represent you.Since you represent me [[where is my opt-out from the 99% -- it is like those cheesy class action lawsuits you are automatically enrolled in) - can you let me know what form of government you are advocating on my behalf?

It's easy to ignore the points, fall in line, and stick with a petty childish insult for the protesters as a whole. I, myself, prefer a RLBL suit on a daily basis. How about you?
Then please don't purport to represent me. In truth, you represent the 10 percenters, max, who find themselves extreme in their view, feel disenfranchised or are outsiders looking to feel a sense of belonging.
As for the points, which ones? Let's talk specifics. Am I mad that corporations are holding capital in reserves? Not really, it is their prerogative. Was I a fan of the bailouts? Not really. Do I understand why they were done and the what a calamity it would have been if some of the huge banks went under? For sure.
But it is always easier to sit up on the perch of righteousness and blame away everything on the villain du juor. These days that would be individuals and businesses making money. Go figure.
As for what I wear, depends on the day really. Could range from designer clothes to something very casual. With success comes flexibility, right? Oh wait, success...I don't want a protest outside my office. Forgot we are advocating mediocrity.
I do find it ironic that the person aligned with this movement fancies themselves such a label snob. Cognitive dissonance?
Is it just me, or is this possibly the most confusing thread of the year?
Let's start simply: where did I claim to represent you or align myself with this movement? Then please don't purport to represent me. In truth, you represent the 10 percenters, max, who find themselves extreme in their view, feel disenfranchised or are outsiders looking to feel a sense of belonging.

We can move on once you get your bearings.
Nevermind, I'll make it easy. I'm probably in the sub-1% who has a good job & savings but realizes the entire system is failing and would support a complete overhaul. I claim to represent nobody but myself. I'll game any system, but that doesn't mean I think everyone else should, as well.
But this isn't about me...
I guess the "Arab Spring" is leading to the "American Fall"
