Thread: Occupy Detroit

Occupy seems much less united. The Tea Party movement seems to really rally around racism and xenophobia and it keeps them more united.

This is what I love about the "occupy" supporters, total ignorance.

Here are some basic tenants of the Tea Party:
"They believe in time-honored American values, principles and systems including the freedom to innovate.
They believe freedom from government allows entrepreneurs to try new things, see what works and discard what doesn't.
They do not believe this country should be divided by class, but united in a return to the principles that undergird our nation's success.
They want more of what made America great: more Constitutional restraint on government so that the people have more freedom to achieve the good things the country offers."

Where is racism in those statements?

I said that the tea party was racist, not those statements.

For example, where I live, the Warren Tea Party's president Thomas Kuettner is a full-blown neo-nazi white supremacist.

I think both movements are disunited and mischaracterized. Movements like these draw in the extreme fringes whose theatrics can grab the attention of the media in search of color instead of 'boring' substance.

Fringe groups view protest movements as fertile ground for gaining new recruits to their tiny organizations and often succeed in the effort.

In turn, make it easy for the opponents of the movements to characterize the movements by the fringes rather than the preponderant but less focused opinion of the participants.

So the Tea Partiers are loud-angry gun-toting racists who want to replace the constitution with some form of Christian sharia law and starve uneducated poor kids.

The Occupiers are aimless hippie trust fund babies falling under the spell of violent anarchists intent on destroying America, taking Wall Street millionaires to the guillotine and create communistic totalitarian society.

Oh if it were that simple!

That's what confuses me about the tea party. They believe in time-honored American values. What does that even mean? Life is fluid. Society is fluid. You can't go back.
Time honored American values were great, for some. Not so good for others, which tend to be the people that are searching for a better future. Life isn't a Norman Rockwell painting.
It's like looking at Mayberry in the Andy Griffith show and concluding that life must have been great for everyone in the south during the 50's and early 60's.
American values is a great concept as long as it values equality for all Americans.

If my "Time-honored American values" you mean morality, well, you are wrong. There is no need for ones moral rules to change over time. The facts of a situation may change, science may change, but you just apply the same morality to the changing situations.

Geez, I wonder what these Occupy folks are protesting about?

The news was that Citigroup had to pay a $285 million fine to settle a case in which, with one hand, Citibank sold a package of toxic mortgage-backed securities to unsuspecting customers — securities that it knew were likely to go bust — and, with the other hand, shorted the same securities — that is, bet millions of dollars that they would go bust. Yeah I hear you Gnome, not to thread jacket but I hate FB too and now it is becoming a news and comment portal for stuff and if you don't have an account you're toast for access. I guess I'll just have to set up a 'very' restricted blind FB with a fake handle so as to mingle... and mangle... ugh.

    There, I said it.

And most of all, I hate clinking on links to facebook that forces one to log-in to view.

I hear that. Capitalism is not perfect, hardly! Yet the poor and homeless don't do so well under other 'systems' either. They too are 'handled', or worse disappear, nice and tidy as we've seen historically. And the palaces of the 'rich', and elite remain for longer stints in office.... I like to talk to people who've lived under other social economic systems to see how they feel about capitalism. Rather than someone handing me a flyer for their 'organization' of the day.

Anyone else remember when they dumped all the homeless on Belle Isle for a weekend so the tourists could enjoy the $uper Bowl in "peace"?

Yes, Citibank settled with the U.S. government and admitted no wrong. A normal person might conclude that the government is the problem in the situation.

As it gets colder, please consider bringing tarps, gloves, hats, scarves, blankets and whatever warm clothes you can spare to GCP. Also, donations of food would be nice, along with the protesters, there are plenty of homeless who are flocking to the site for food - and they’re getting it. Thanks in part to the above-mentioned Wobbly Kitchen, who as anarchists, would never support the government of ANYBODY. Silly silly Shea.

My Comrads of Occupy of Occupy Detroit!

Please be pepared for war against evil corporations with their relationship with the U.S. Gov,t. We will march behind the spirit of Guy Fawkes and other socialist revolutionaries of past. We will go to all the banks, automotive companies and demand our money back. We will perpare to go to prison or get beat up or killed for our cause. Carry no weapons but the signs of socialist freedom. Do not use the signs for defensive or offensive purposes. Our only weapon is peace. Peace from our proletarians. The corporate pigs with their goon squads will harden their hearts until their compassion is release and out mantra is heard. Let's go and make the corporations poor. Let them go bankrupt. Keep them from lobbying government for more bailout money. Let their politicians know that giving our hard earn taxation to the rich is immoral and unethical and they will face serious consequences if they contribute.

My Comrads! If we want to restore the American Dream and other international dreams, we must abolish global plutomony and other kleptocracies. Change your leaders and we can change the world. For our brothers and sisters for a global socialist democracy from the conservatism and the bourgeoisies! Keep your eyes on the prize and we shall overcome someday.

    WORD FROM THE STREET PROPHET

From the Spirit of Guy Fawkes and the 99 Percenters together.

    Neda, I miss you so.

You do realize that Guy Fawkes was a militant Catholic who was trying to return England to control of pope in Rome, and Fawkes' death [[and foiling of the treasonous Gunpowder Plot) is celebrated each year in Britain, right?

Guy Fawkes did what he got to do reform Parliament with gunpowder! He didn't like what parliament is doing to the People of England or the Church. If you can't change government with words wipe out it and instute a new government for mankind. It happens to all governments, pharoahs, kings, queens, emperors, tyrants and czars. Empires rise and fall depends on the people or one person and its for survival of our culture, history, creed, morality and zeal.

Even our very own U.S. Constitution sez...

" If the government is corrupted, abolished it and institute a new government."
