From the Detroit News......

Former Detroit Cass Tech football coach Dick "Richard" Cole died Thursday.
Cole coached a number of players who went on to play in college including Harlan Huckleby , Curtis Greer , Roosevelt Smith and Ralph Clayton.
Detroit Pershing coach Charles Spann was the head coach at Detroit Chadsey in the early 80s and Cole was his defensive coordinator.
"He was a very honest man," Spann said, "and a lot of people didn't like that. He believed in certain things and he stuck by them."
"Both of us were hard-headed so we both had to learn to listen to one another. One thing about him was he loved kids. I loved him as the fool he was."
Current Cass Tech coach Thomas Wilcher said Cole was a mentor early in his life.
"He'd pick me up at home and drive me to track practice," Wilcher said. "Me and Charles Jones would get a ride to practice. Charles played running back at Chadsey and he was a sprinter."
