Got this email this afternoon from WSU president. Don't know the numbers however:

Dear Colleagues,

This note is to inform you that today we began a reduction in force, and have notified most of the affected employees.

This difficult decision was necessitated by a $32 million reduction in our FY 2012 state funding, the largest cut in our history.

In response to this reduction, we analyzed every school, college and division over the past several months to identify potential cost cuts and efficiencies. Our Board of Governors also voted to raise our undergraduate tuition by 6.9 percent, and our graduate tuition by 7.1 percent. Even with these efforts, a reduction in force is necessary to balance the budget and maintain the quality of our teaching and research. We are not planning additional personnel reductions beyond this reduction in force at this time.

Change is always difficult, particularly when it affects people that have been part of our community. They have been good contributors, and we appreciate all they have done for Wayne State.

Thank you,

Allan Gilmour
President
