Not to defend Romney because I think he's a typical politician but the issue isn't as simple as "they're profitable," what an idiot! The bailout recipients [[not just the Big 2/3) are paying back their loans in devalued dollars. The very same monetary policies that allowed them to receive bailouts created the increase in inflation that we've seen the past few years. Who suffers the most from this? The American people - especially the taxpayers.
