I drive a 1990 Ford Ranger, Which is good enuff for me, The Girlfriend/Wife drives the 91 Buick Century which she took over when her 96 Jeep Cherokee Country lost its steering. I drove that for a year till the converter bolts broke. If I hadn't had my mortgage go up $177.00 a month I would have an Impala, Malibu, or Mustang in the driveway. Keeping cars on the road is a pain, New and old.

For decades, "what kind of car do you drive?" has been the defining question in metropolitan Detroit. For young, single guys, it could be make-or-break in getting a date...

Hopefully, as the auto industry is de-emphasized and our economy diversifies, this question won't seem to matter as much.

    It shouldn't.

Although this area will continue to be at the very least the Automotive Capital of the United States, if not the world, for some time to come [[the concentration of automakers and auto suppliers in Detroit simply cannot be matched by Tokyo, Stuttgart, etc., even if GM joins Chrysler in bankruptcy and emerges a much smaller company), you're right it really shouldn't matter what kind of cars we drive.

But, with that said, many people in this area will continue to drive Big 3 cars with pride not only because they or their relatives may have helped build them but also b/c they or their relatives may have engineered them, or done advertising, legal, or accounting work for the Big 3. If they want to show their pride by posting on forum like DY, then I say, good for them.

pgn421 I'm guessing you don't drive your Marquise much. That is impressively low mileage. I drive my car every day so it is not in pristine shape. The interior is still lovely, all my windows work and so does the a/c. Is it a Sunday go-to-meeting car? Are you the first owner?

    2004 Chrysler Town & Country
    2005 Kia Sedona

Both were bought used...haven't bought a brand new car in a while. I will never buy another Kia. I don't care how many bells and whistles it has or how [[supposedly) good the mileage is. It is a POS.

I love the Chrysler minivans..this is the second used one we have bought. Not sure where I will go to buy a new vehicle when the time comes...but it will definitely be American.

I drove a 2000 Ford Ranger this past year for school, I got from my dad. But we are a Chrysler family and now there is a 2007 Caliber and 2006 Town and Country in the driveway.

But right now I am living in Chicago and thankfully do not have a car here. It is crazy driving here.

1994 Olds Cutlass Ciera bought used in 2001. Had to replace the intake gaskets. 3.1 engine.
1995 GMC Sierra 1500 bought used 2001. Just replaced rotted brake lines.
2002 Saturn SL2 bought new. So far so good. Our travel car. Like it a lot. Leased a 1999 SL and liked it so well we bought this one.

None, though the wife has a Pontiac Grand Prix. My Geo died two days before I moved to Chicago. Serendipity.
