Is this just for towers 500 & 600 or for the entire complex? Isn't there still a lot of vacant space in towers 100-400?
[quote=daddeeo;167574]I can't stand Mike Cox but I doubt he had a lap dance at the Manoogian for a couple of reasons.
His accuser hasn't come back to swear under oath what he said was true and the...
I don't know if I can find an original link but here is a different forum discussing the above move. ...
Sad to say but this is dead on. The RenCen is a lot more open than it used to be but this is exactly how it operates. In other buildings downtown somtimes people have to at least walk a block down...
Remember that these 6,000 workers are really more like replacements for workers who used to be downtown but left due to layoffs, etc. At one point, the entire RenCen was full and the Compuware...
Mike Cox investigated this matter and declared it an "urban myth."
This will have less impact on downtown retail than if these workers had moved to almost any other location in the CBD. The RenCen is very self-contained and workers leave the complex at a much lower...
GM is buying Ft. Worth Texas based Americredit Bank for 3.5 Billion dollars. Any chance they will move the bank's HQ from Texas to Detroit?

I have also experienced this with my colleagues and friends. Those who want an urban lifestyle don't move into the city, they just leave the state for places like Chicago, SF, etc.
We definately can handle them, so many thousands of workers have left downtown in recent years -- yet the parking spots they used are still there [[think of how many GM has laid off alone). ...
I think you're getting my comments wrong. I am in no way complaining about "jobs coming downtown." I've only questioned the millions of dollars our state/city gives away in tax breaks and said that...
From your description, it sounds like these are data entry/processing jobs.

I'll take any job we can get but I'd rather not give away tax dollars for call center jobs when our schools, police force, etc. are all suffering and in need of money. Now, if we're giving tax...
There is absolutely nothing wrong with call center jobs. The question is, with limited public resources, do we choose to use millions of dollars of tax abatements attracting call center jobs or...
Totally agree but I worry that they see Detroit as a Bangalore of America in terms of shifting cheaper/commoditized work here and training lower skill workers and then paying them a low wage. I hope...
Yes but if you have one "manager" making 200,000 and 4 "workers" each making 25,000/per year, your average salary is 75k per year, even though 80% of the workers are making 25k a year [[this is just...
Is this just a call center? Are we bringing knowledge based jobs to the city or call center jobs?
Good point. M1 will make a big difference in terms of moving people in and out of the area.
Agree and disagree, for your average person getting off a tourist ship at the port authority building, getting to the RenCen and then navigating through the RenCen to find the People Mover Station...
Agreed re: Miller Garage. It's unrealistic to expect this building to be phased out as it is needed for RenCen parking, however, something could certainly be done to give the building productive...
Lowell, you are correct. There is a sidewalk along Atwater but this sidwalk contains a large concrete barrier that cuts it off from the building and the riverwalk [[it's hard to see this barrier on...
Here's what I mean. It's surrounded by a vacant auditorium, a parking garage, the tunnel to Canada and the Renaissance Center [[a building that is very fortress like and relatively unaccessible,...
Even if it extends out into the river, what are they going to do about this absolutely isolated location?
