Great story, Lowell.
I've been so happy to see what they've done with Gordon Park.
Thanks, Mike!

Ahh, thanks, Kathleen! Yeah, this was what I was curious about. It's exact relation to the block. There is an alley through the block, even now, though it now ends at the park instead of...
Couldn't be northwest corner of a block; see picture above. All I'm trying to figure out is if the cross-street is Clairmont or Atkins.
Old post, but to go along with this, was Economy Printing at the southwest corner of 12th and Atkinson? I see 12th and Clairmont mentioned all the time, but some of the photos from that time taking a...
This seems like something I should have known to have done years ago, but I wrote the Burton Historical Collection at DPL, and they literally got back to me the next day. The restaurant was called...
Thanks for pulling that up, jcole. This will help narrow it down.
The only mention I've found on here of a "Shangri-La" is something in Midtown and in West Bloomfield. The place I'm talking about was on 8 Mile, for sure, between the Lodge and Schaefer.
Still haven't nailed this one down. Little non-descript, stand-alone building, beige-brick, etc.
Seriously, the Toronto Sun? lol Come on, now.
To answer the first question asked, it seems to be an actual proposal, but in the very early stages.

"Open" and "completed" can very much be different things [[but also the same thing). Plenty of buildings can get their occupancy certificates before they are "completed." Many jurisdictions hand out...
The tower is most definitely going to be steel, and I imagine the block, too, because because of the long floorplates. But, yeah, the tower is most definitely going to be a steel frame.
Okay, so this map DID in fact show street names were applicable. Thanks, again.
Thanks!
That'd mean the western boundary for 1806 incorporation would have still been Cass. Looking more closely, I'd bet Adams was the original northern boundary, and Randolph the eastern one...
What were the original boundaries of the city first incorporated in 1806 and then again in 1815 after the local government had went defunct? I found these slides:

Oh, I know. If you blow it up, you can see that they've generally kept the design features, was my point.
So cool. These both look to be tower mock-ups. Whatever the ultimate specs are, it's good to see they've generally kept the same styling as on previous versions of the complex.

Again, that video has been out since last summer and does not show the current design.
Well, actually, no. It was only downsized once. That was to 680 feet; I found out the number of stories right after that on my own. The first floors are going to be [[and we're always going to be)...
The latest rendering is the one for the 912-foot version at 62 floors. They've released no new rendering for the revised tower, nor really much new information as far as specs go. I emailed the...
They don't work on Sundays, anyway, so you missed a day.
It's my favorite architectural feature of the project. It's a modern design, but with locally architecturally relevant materials. Brilliant touch.
Well, at least on the tower, what they've said is that it'd be terra cotta. Perhaps they are staying with that, which will be beautiful.
BTW, southen, if you don't feel like giving away the exact...
