From
the bridge house on the Dix Street bridge the raising and lowering
the drawbridge was conducted for decades, allowing entrance
of the huge ore and coal laden vessels into the Rouge
Complex.
The
Rouge
During
the depression, demonstrators crossed this bridge while trying
to take a petition for relief to Henry Ford. Shortly after
crossing, the jobless workers were fired on and five workers
died in what became known as the Ford Hunger March.
