Having a great time living in Las Vegas. Does Detroit still have a hockey team?

Two conference titles and they are already too cocky to touch the trophy?!? LMAO nice try.
Vegas is a well built team. But without a true top 6 they will find trouble with a Florida defense that has absolutely shut down ecery single attack thrown at them over the last month. Panthers in 6.
Believe it or not, despite living here in Las Vegas since I retired from the DPD in 1984, I have never placed a bet on any sports result. Play the slots from time to time but that's it. And it's just for the fun, no expectation to win.
But southern Nevada weather? God almighty, that's a total winner.

I was only once in Vegas, in 1990, and spent maybe 5 dollars on the slots. Gotta kick outta the "atmosphere" but nothing that would keep me there longer. But I have to hand it to ya Ray, if the weather suits ya, enjoy! There are plenty times in January when I mull over the possibility of another lifestyle. I am reconciled with my home now that the summer is upon us.
Believe it or not, this guy claims to be a real estate agent in Las Vegas and offers 10 reasons not to live there:
It's odd that he displays his phone number. You don't see that very often nowadays.

Avoid Moving Here Unless You Can Handle These 10 Facts
I'm suspicious. I'd rather take Ray's advice.

Plus side? No state income tax.
Negative side? Nothng that bothers me.
Another plus side? This view from my doorstoop.
Lets add a few dozen more teams and players and really water down the league...
...there shouldn't be teams south of the Mason Dixon or west of the Mississippi.
1953
I would not live there under any circumstances. But clearly lots of people like it; I'm glad you find it congenial. The US is a big country; lots of different places for different preferences.
Ray you sound really miserable stuck out there in the desert. Maybe you should come back to the D.
The only gambling I do is buy a mega lottery ticket, but only if the payout exceeds the odds which starts just north of $300 Million. A slots jackpot or a good night at a casino won't change a much but hitting the lotto... hmmm
Naw, at 86 I'm here for good. I do miss the D from time to time, especially at this time of year. But it's been a happy 38 years for me and the missus since we packed our bags after retirement. We have a number of other retired DPD guys and gals out this way, and we get together monthly to play cards. BTW, I can't do stairs very well any more. Did I ever mention that none of the homes out here have basements?
I was just kidding of course. I know you love it out there and I'm happy for you. And I know Detroit is still in your heart.

Ray, I mostly agree with you, BUT in terms of the weather, in a month [[or less..) from now when it's at-least 110 degrees out and we know it won't be cooling-off until late September/early October, I'll argue with you! The insane Summer heat is a factor for almost everyone out here -- if you're outside a lot, it sucks, if you're inside with air conditioning a lot, you kinda get cabin fever and either-way, if you're the one paying the electricity & water bills it sucks [[water bill is higher because I'm taking showers twice a day & doing laundry more often because clothes get sweaty fast when I'm outside). The good news about Summer is I don't run the dryer, because I've hung a clothes line in my back yard & everything dries fast in the Summer thanks to low humidity & the broiling heat.
Of course, in Michigan, Winter gets old & there as associated costs with that, but having left Michigan for the W & SW USA 21 years ago, I miss the four distinct seasons, and that late Winter/early Spring day when you can actually smell the grass.
Tim, also in Henderson
I guess there is no perfect place with all things considered other than Heaven, a place I'm in no hurry to see. Just at this moment we're having a very rare thunderstorm reminding me of my Michigan roots. I do not miss Michigan/Detroit politics at all. Politics out here are so mild in comparison. Did I mention our state legislature only meets for four months every other year?
Ray, I'm happy that you're happy. not sure why you get a hard time, but such is life. looking forward to your visit soon.
Stromberg2, beers in hand.
The first NHL Conference Champion not to touch their Conference Championship trophy was ..........Two conference titles and they are already too cocky to touch the trophy?!? LMAO nice try.

The 1997 Philadelphia Flyers, led by their then-Captain Eric Lindros.
As we all recall, the Finals didn't end well at all for them*.
Anyway --- it does look like Vegas is in line to win, but that superstition is kind of dumb. The numbers have shown there's absolutely no correlation between touching or not touching the Conference Champion trophy and how you do in the next round.
FWIW, in the last 4 Stanley Cup Final match-ups between "yes, we touched it" and "no, we didn't touch it", the "yes, we touched it" teams won all 4.
-----------------------------
* Lindros, to his "credit", did technically score the last goal of the 1997 Finals. With 0:14 left in a then 2-0 game. It was also his ONLY goal of the Finals. The Wings totally shut his over-rated butt down in the 1997 Finals.

Man I could not have been more far off with my prediction!
Happy times here in Vegas. I guess this puts us in the bigs, huh?
