I don't know who's the bigger jerk, the attacker or the reporter? What's up with that reenactment? Too bad, I guess you can cross staying there off your list. I hope the drivers vision fully recovers.
Just some young black thugs wanting his vet. It was a crime of opportunity. There were cameras and people everywhere in front of the Atheneum. It won't be long til those hoodies come out into to open. They won't lay low for long.
It's time to start banning some people from coming into your [[casino) establishment. These casinos are so desperate for money, they let anybody and anything in. Time to stop them at the door.
Thanks for the warning...I'll leave my hoodie in Santa Fe when I come to Detroit for the family reunion....
The Atheneum is sorta known of as the high roller hotel. AKA the gangsta hotel. Local rappers and the stations that play them party there, lots of flashy cars with big expensive rims, etc.
To get the discussion back on track... the Atheneum Hotel does not, nor did it ever have any actual association with Greektown Casino.... except geography, and that the developers of the hotel were Jim Pappas and the late Ted Gatzaros, early Detroit casino advocates, who were denied a casino ownership license by the Michigan Gaming Control Commission when they were supposed to be 40% minority partners in Greektown Casino. They weren't even allowed to have casino comps used for hotel stays at their establishment [[ditto for their restaurants Pegasus Taverna and Fishbones).

^^???
Are you referring to the OP's thread title? I think he was referring to Greektown the area, not Greektown the casino. CY please elaborate...
You are correct. Greektown the area, not [[only) Greektown the casino. Atheneum may want to rethink about reputation as the gangsta hotel. Or, alternatively, they can just add the necessary security to keep destructive behavior out.
Casino don't care if you've got $5,000 to blow or a Welfare check. It's all money coming in. Hell, they pander to the broke degenerates to waste what little they have there. $4.99 buffet, free bands, club cards for a free drink or a room every once in awhile. What other business literally takes everything from it's "clients" and gives them absolutely nothing in return but a wish and a prayer?
Good point!
After watching the video and reading the account, I still have no idea what actually happened. Was it an attempted carjacking? If so, how did the would-be carjackers expect to escape with said car in gridlock traffic?
Why was he there in the first place? There is no explanation of the events leading up to the incident. They mention a "disturbance on the eighth floor," but there is indication if that was related to the victims or a separate incident.
And what's with the "angry mob?" Just a group of random angry people roaming around looking for a fight and a car to steal? None of this makes sense to me.
BUT, i do agree that a high profile establishment like the Atheneum needs better security.
Are you unaware of any of the other "mob beatings" that have made the local news in the last few years, in the city and outside? There have been plenty, it's nothing new.
