Turning right from the Fire Department and looking across Woodward from the Gerald Street cul de sac, one sees a relic of Detroit's commercial past. Highland Appliance, whose sign remains although it has long departed, was a once successful appliance and electronics chain. Growing from this location it spread to numerous locations in metro Detroit until succumbing to competition in the 1990's.
