When his football career ended in in 1974, he invested his savings in an Oak Park Ford dealership. In spite of the recessions and oil embargos of the 1970's his business grew. By the 1998 he was grossing over a half billion dollars in sales.

But trouble was brewing. Defaults on car carelessly dispensed loans and an ill-advised corporate expansion loan suddenly and dramatically collapsed his empire.
