A new house sits on a former vacant lot in the Mexicantown area of Detroit.  In the background the ruins of the Michigan Central Depot presents a stark contrast to the direction this reviving neighborhood is going.

In a city that once went an entire year without issuing a new housing permit, the City of Detroit has seen a quiet, almost unnoticed, rise of thousands of affordable homes that are filling once vacant lots in a city given up for dead by pessimists.  This tour skips around the old inner city and shows the visitor the tip of the iceberg of this remarkable turnabout.
