Glad to see that HM identified the Burlesque theater. Thought it might have been the Lyceum, but it is obviously the Avenue Theater.

They still exist in Chicago and the other northeast urban centers too. The trend now though is for the structures to be owned by large outdoor advertising operators -- they use them to sell ad space -- rather than the municipal governments itself, which is how I believe it was administered in the past [[bus shelters are also trending this way too so I wouldn't be surprised to see this in Detroit's future). I used to work for a company that tracked stuff like this but I never came across any data about newsstand structures in Detroit.

I haven't seen many here in DC...most are little stands within buildings and whatnot.

Downtown already looks really dirty and sad by now. Especially foretelling is the pic west of the Penobscott that shows a see of surface lots. I saw another pic recently [[forget where) of Washington Blvd in 1964. There were not many people out, and the buildings looked to be in worse shape than they do now.

Love the pics tho! Do you have any of Brush Park?

Thank's ismoakrack. I have to make some time to go through the rest of the collection, so I can't say if any Brush Park shots are here. So far, no. I do have some very interesting photos showing some concepts and ideas from what I would presume to be the civil engineering firm. Stand by for those, to be posted at this forum some time after the protest here and across the World Wide Web.

My father, grandfather, and great-grandfather worked at Hudson at various times. When the Hudson plant closed my grandfather, who had worked there for more than 20 years, lost his job, his seniority, and his pension all at once.

This picture reminds me of a painting done my aunt, who was an art student at Wayne at the time, of a very similar scene of the rubble of the Hudson plant. For obvious reasons, this scene was very personal to her, and I believe she still has the painting.

For years my grandfather cursed the name of Hudson and Roy Chapin Jr. [[who ran Hudson and merged it with Nash into AMC, leaving most former Hudson workers high and dry). But now when I see a magnificent old Hudson in a car show, or, better yet, rolling down the street, I can't help but tear up a little knowing that my grandfather, and maybe other members of my family, helped produce that car.

Do you Dent or anyone else know what the small building on the top right, with the large advertisement, was? And would I assume correctly that is the Cadillac Tower next to it?
