  1. Default Big Stink in Windsor

A prolonged city workers strike in Windsor has garbage piling up and fuses shortening.

CBC National just showed Mayor Eddie Francis leading Windsor's Birthday walk [Happy Birthday Windsor!] along the riverfront and getting confronted by strikers. A lot of shouting followed and Eddie had to have a police escort to be able to cut the birthday cake.

I remember hearing about this a while back and didn't realize it still wasn't resolved.

What's up Windsor? Any end in sight?

  2. Default

None in the pipeline. I've missed seven weeks of garbage and recycling pickup at my house.

The biggest stumbling block is that the city wants to remove the post retirement prescription benefits for future hires. The union refuses to back down on that issue. The union head told the City that "You don't have to worry about the problem for 30 years, so forget it".

The sense of entitlement is the reason the strike is still on. In the city in Canada with the highest unemployment rate the strikers have next to no support.
