Default Tom's oyster bar detroit and royal oak changing hands

Just called Tom's Oyster Bar downtown to check kitchen closing time for tonight as we were thinking of going in after the Symphony. Host person told me that BOTH locations have been sold and will operate by separate owners under management contracts until the license transfers are complete. Tom is retiring. Certainly the end of one hell of a run for a restaurant owner/operator.

Both places have gone down hill in the last few years. I figured Tom would be selling soon. I really miss the original one. Great great resturant.

Tom's been planning this for some time. Great guy and great restaurants. But everyone meets a time to ease on down the road. Agreed - I miss the original in it's different incarnations - Union Street, Tom's Oyster and later, down the street as Tom's Steamer. Tom also had excellent employees, some of whom have taken over his legacy, as well as his former restaurants, as owners of their own joints.
