    Default Restored F.W. Woolworth store in Asheville, NC...

    This Woolworth's building in downtown Asheville played a role in the struggle to end racial desegregation in the 1960s. The soda fountain is still in operation in the midst of the floor that is occupied by arts and crafts concessionaires.

    Asheville is an interesting city 2100 feet up in the mountains of western North Carolina. It has a significant arts scene along with something like 11 micro brewery restaurants. Asheville, from what I saw of it recently, is no Mayberry...

    Are you sure you don't mean the one in Greensboro NC?

    9Mile, the Greensboro, NC Woolworth's may be more historic in regard to lunch counter desegregation, but Asheville had it's own civil rights moment at Woolworth's as per a narrative that is on the soda fountain menu.
