Default Tours of Detroit areas and sights

    Hey all,

I'm looking to plan some tours for a small group [[about 20 people). I'm interested in tours that cover large parts of the city, as well as tours of particular districts, of groups of buildings, of individual buildings, or of industries and other special interests. Basically, all kinds of different tours!

Do you know of any interesting ones?

    Thanks!

    Try Preservation Wayne:

Go to the tours page for their existing tours, though it looks like they won't start up again until May. It also gives a contact link for organizing private tours. I've been on a few of theirs and have had a good time.

KarmicCurse is right--Preservation Wayne will tailor tours to meet your specific needs. You might also want to check out the TPLEX--they open on Friday. The TPLEX is the first Ford Motor Company assembly plant and the birthplace of the Model T. The TPLEX is located at the corner of Piquette and Beaubien.

Stewart McMillin is an excellent tour guide. Maybe he would be willing to create a tour tailored to your interests.

Diamond Jack's River Tours runs out of Rivard Plaza on the Riverwalk Thursday-Sunday afternoons starting in mid-June. You can take as many tours of Detroit as you want, but the water perspective is completely different. They have good historical narration and the captains know plenty about the river they sail upon.

I do bicycle tours, both through the Wheelhouse and on my own. Send me private message or call the Wheelhouse to ask.

In addition to the already-mentioned organizations that offer tours, here's a few more to check out:

    Detroit Tour Connections

    DTours

    Feet on the Street

The key to taking tours of Detroit is to patronize the various organizations and to take the tours more than once since each tour guide offers a different perspective!

Also, there are tours of specific sites, including:
    Meadowbrook Hall
    Edsel and Eleanor Ford Estate
    Fox Theatre
    Renaissance Center

Other annual tour events of note:
Indian Village Home and Garden Tour [[June)
Corktown Home and Garden Tour [[June)
Preservation Wayne Annual Theatre Tour [[August)
    Boston-Edison Holiday Home Tour [[December)
