Created by Detroit civic leaders such as Tracy McGregor, Henry Hulburt and William H Maybury. This place was built when there was real concern over education and making Detroit and Wayne County a better place. It was unique in that is was the only County run institution of its kind. Great architects like Marcus Burrowes, Aaron and Nathaniel Gould designed the buildings. There were several WPA jobs done as well.
A complete loss when 99.9% of it was destroyed to help pay for the new stadiums in Detroit there are only a couple small reminders that it was ever there. Not even a plaque or marker to designate its existence.
I have interviewed many people that were part of the school. I have dozen of videos, pictures and endless material. Since it sat empty for nearly a quater of a century thousands of us were able to experience the school which has only added to its amazing history.
