WDET Seeks Reporter, partnership w/ “The Takeaway” provides national coverage of Detroit reinvention

WDET is seeking a reporter who will work collaboratively with WDET and “The Takeaway” as part of its “Reimagining Detroit” initiative. “Reimagining Detroit” aims to help Americans across the country better understand Detroit, its efforts to improve the lives of its citizens and how other U.S. communities can learn from Detroit’s experiences. The reporter will cover a beat that examines the ways established businesses; entrepreneurs and the economy intersect at the neighborhood and personal level. The reporter should have a perceptive understanding of the experience of inclusion/ exclusion: who is in, who is out, who is going up, who is going down, why and what it says about where our country is today.

This station-based journalist will need to develop deep relationships with Detroit’s African-American and immigrant communities. This journalist would serve as a regular contributor to “The Takeaway”, be featured on WDET’s local talk show, The Craig Fahle Show, and help develop a standing Community Resource Network at WDET. The reporters’ work will be featured in both WDET and “The Takeaway’s” on line spaces.

The reporter will report to WDET’s New Director and closely collaborate with an assignment producer at The Takeaway, while receiving support from WDET’s Public Insight Journalism Analyst, WDET’s newsroom and members of WDET’s Community Resource Network.

This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for an experienced journalist who has a passion for multi-platform, community-centric reporting. This position was made possible through support of the Wm. K Kellogg Foundation.
