In Fennville, a small town on the West side of the state, the star player of the high school basketball team, Wes Leonard, died of an enlarged heart after making the winning basket. The win kept the team undefeated for the season and sent the Blackhawks into the state playoffs.
The team and community bonded together kept playing for Wes, his family and for each other.

I cannot read any of this without aching from head to foot, inside and out. There but for the grace of God... I have a son just about Wes's age. He attends the high school that hosted the game between Fennville and Schoolcraft.

Yes Vicksburg, I was shooting part of this piece at this game. Fennville ended up losing to Vicksburg but given what they went through basketball is nowhere near as important

I'm happy that ESPN has stopped covering this school. It makes me sick that they were making a spectacle over a poor kid's death.
