    Default Shoppes at The Riverfront

Possibly one day they will have some mid-to high end shopping right on the water downtown. Department stores from JcPenneys to Saks Fifth Avenue, smaller stores like Coach/Hermes/Ferragamo, and local restaurants to national chains like Grand Lux Cafe/Mortons.

Possibly one day they will have flying cars... Possibly one day we will have a female president... Possibly one day we will be overrun in a zombie apocalypse.

All possible but I am not sure why we would start a thread about them unless there was some sort of announcement.

I see none of this happening. The low end establishment that are already dt are barely staying in business as it is

Someone should put a Dollar General in the site of Asian Village. RenCen workers have nowhere to buy underwear or to get 2 liters of Pepsi.

Doesn't anyone remember the failed, very upscale, [[Cartier and others) shops at Renaissance Center? It's been tried and failed. Won't see it again at least in most of our lifetimes.

America is over retailed as it is. We don't need any more stores so people that are bored with their lives can obtain more useless crap.

i do remember cartier in the early ren cen years, along with a little shop that maureen keane ran. unfortunately the only store currently in the ren cen making any money is the cvs.

maybe if the retail rent was lowered at the ren cen, there would be more shops. I'm pretty sure that a gamestop would open right there, if there was more of an incentive.

Bingo. We've had this discussion before. It's frustrating when a Detroit business begins to thrive despite all odds, only to have their landlords jack up the rent to astronomical prices. The proprietors go out of business. So instead of having a reasonable rental income, the building just stays vacant. Does this happen in any other metro as often as it does here?

In all fairness there are some new property owners in the CBD that are offering as much as 1 year free rent to encourage movement.

It is called supply and demand Detroit has a huge supply of empty space and one would think that the asking rental or even sales price would reflect that but it seems not and the attitude is on some goes more towards that everything is cut in stone verses structured leases to where movement can be created in turn creating demand.

I heard Hermes has plans to open up downtown as soon as they put the finishing touches on their Shreveport and Tupelo boutiques.
