03.26.11 | 4th Annual Detroit Bikes Spring Training Ride | 10 AM

The Fourth Annual Detroit Bikes! Spring Training Ride [[STR for short) is a sports themed event in which the riders will cruise past current and past Detroit sports venues, including Comerica Park, Ford Field, Tiger Stadium [[RIP), Olympia Stadium [[RIP), Recreation Park, Veterans Memorial Park in Hamtramck [[former home of the Detroit Stars) and others. Wear something that represents your favorite Detroit City team [[professional, college, high school, CYO, etc.), such as a T-shirt or bandanna and help us welcome the warm weather!

Cost: FREE! But bring cash for beverage and food stops [[to be determined)
Ride Starts: 10 AM sharp at the Millennium Bell, Grand Circus Park, downtown Detroit. Please arrive at about 0945.
Distance of ride: approximately 16 miles | HELMETS REQUIRED!
Length: approximately three hours
Pace: Relaxed pace, suitable for all experience levels
Volunteer Needs: We need all the help we can get!
Volunteer Duties: Event photographer, ride integrity helpers, SAG [[support and gear vehicle), people to assist with minor bike repairs, etc.
Dress: Show your Detroit sports pride by wearing your favorite Detroit team's T-shirt, hat, bandanna, flag, socks, wristbands, whatever!
Rain Date: NONE! The ride will take place regardless of rain, snow, earthquakes, or federal indictments. There is no rain date! As long as one person shows up [[in addition to me[[Tom), of course!) the show will go on!

Considering getting started with biking this spring... eek! Are beginners welcome, or is this for experienced bikers?

Beginners are definitely welcome!
This and other Detroit Synergy [[Detroit Bikes)themed rides are not races. They are an opportunity to see some of the sights in Detroit in a leisurely fashion.
The pace is less than 15mph. Taking into account that the ride will take 3 hours or so ,that's <5mph. Of course the 3 hours is including stops.

The ride coordinator has tentatively lengthened the distance slightly.
Five miles , twenty total miles . Not significant for the pace we'll ride!


Here's the tentative route for the Detroit Bikes Spring Training Ride, 2011.� Again, the ride is set for Saturday, March 26, 2011. 10 AM START at Grand Circus Park, under the Millennium Bell.� 20 miles [[32 KM).
