Look in history there is always those who ruin it for many... When we look at history we read that Columbus was this great man.. we celebrate the discovery of the discovery of our hemisphire each Oct.. but in reality he brought death and genocide to the natives- so did our forefathers in Plymouth Rock.. these people would be considered terrorists beyond compare if history could judge them accurately ... they systematically killed and enslaved the native population.. they took back to Spian and Europe the myth that these people were not valuable.. in short they demonized many for their own gains..

now to my point.. Yes there are positions that radical Islamists take on.. but to condem all Muslims becuase of a few is as historically innocorrect as blaming all europeans for the genocide committed on all native Americans.. look what we do now to the Palestinians because of an effective campaign to demonize them and look in turn to how some demonize the Israelis..when in fact that it is some that ruin it for many..we as a nation should not be those people, who demonize others out of fear or ignorance. we saw what it does.. in our own history.. we enslaved and killed natives...we enslaved and killed Africans... we placed Japanese in camps... we tolerated segregation of blacks.. why do we want to go there again?

Kurzman found that recruitment of the world’s 1 billion Muslims to extremism has declined sharply since 9/11. And where threats do surface, appeals to protect territory yield far more recruits than calls to strike the West. So Hamas’ military wing, for instance, succeeds in recruiting 1 in 100 residents of Gaza. But for Muslims worldwide, the numbers of those enlisted in the cause are more like 1 in 100,000. When King, in one of his conciliatory moods, says “most Muslims are good people,” his “most” should really be “far more than 99 percent.”

You can't ignore the fact that nearly 25% of the Quran's verses refer to hell or punishment after death for those who don't believe what Mohammad says. Any way you slice it, that is intolerance towards other beliefs. Islam is certainly not alone there, but the three verses Ellison referred to are only a tiny percentage of the total Quran. Ellison was not at all convincing since he just used tired old arguments that anyone who had never cracked open the Quran could have said. For example, it is hard to not quote Quranic suras out of context because there is precious little context in most suras. They are just collections of sayings of Mohammed, not stories as in the Bible. The Quran is no more "complex" than the Bible is so again that argument of Ellison's is disingenuous. And finally, my copy of the Quran is dated 1909. In recent times there has been an attempt to make the Quran sound more "scientific" by translating it in new ways. The earth is described as resting " without pillars that you see instead of "invisible pillars."

    The Thunder

    1. [13.2] Allah is He Who raised the heavens without any pillars that you see, and He is firm in power and He made the sun and the moon subservient [[to you); each one pursues its course to an appointed time; He regulates the affair, making clear the signs that you may be certain of meeting your Lord.

    Luqman

    1. [31.10] He created the heavens without pillars as you see them, and put mountains upon the earth lest it might convulse with you, and He spread in it animals of every kind; and We sent down water from the cloud, then caused to grow therein [[vegetation) of every noble kind.

Here is an online Quran. Just do a simple search of "hell" and then "punishment" and see how many suras refer to those words.

Here is a link to the Bible on line.

    Search of hell - Koran-97 Bible-15

    Search of punish - Koran-198 Bible-171

Search of slay - Koran 27 Bible 18

So what? The Bible says to kill you disobedient children.

    The Dinner Table

    1. [5.33] The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His apostle and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement

I'm not saying that the Bible does not have savage passages and ideas, but the Quran has a more concentrated obsession with hell because it is a smaller book. And you can't forget all the verses in the hadith extolling the virtues of jihad.

Search the Quran for the word "chastisement" too.
