    Default Detroit Ville Sauvage

I stumbled across a trailer by this name, translation "Detroit Wild City", which I drew me in and lead to a vimeo page for the filmmaker. [Googling it, with the "site:detroityes.com" following, found that it was previously mentioned here but had no followup or comments - just a mention that it was going to shown at the Burton Film Theater.]

The trailer suggests that it is of the 'ruins porn' genre and reminiscent of Detroit Ruin of a City for its mingling of documentary footage of Henry Ford.

However I found the filmmaker's cruise up the Rouge with Joel Thurtell from the Detroit River to Fairlane Mansion to be a far more interesting take. In fact I thought that piece, entitled "The Sanctuary" actually deserved the title of "Detroit Wild City" as it moves from industrial dreariness into wilderness, complete with turkey buzzards.

[BTW Jimaz jumped up and down about this to no response back in April 09. Link]

Great stuff Lowell. As China and India grow their heavy industries, we are mellowing down and maybe this gives us a chance to ponder what we have done to our landscapes.

I saw this movie when it played at the Burton Theater and thought it presented a powerful portrait of Detroit. Yes, it does showcase many of the city's abandoned buildings. But when making a film about Detroit, how can you not? The second half focused more on uplifting stories and interesting people: a handyman who lives off the grid, a demolition organizer, the heads of several community gardens, etc. Not to mention, it was very well shot. 4/5 stars.

Anybody know where to get a copy of Detroit Ruin of a city? Torrent or dvd? I looked online, to no avail.

    Thanks,

LOL! I did a pirouette too. That was about Tillon's Detroit Wildlife though. That's on his vimeo page too. He sure is good at what he does.
