    Default Legalizing Prostitution

Harry Reid wants to criminalize it in NV, but I think it should be legalized. Prostitutes could be required to get medical clearances regularly and to pay taxes. And the prostitutes could require clients to use condoms and they would have more power to protect themselves from abuse. Prostitution is not going away, so why not legalize it and do away with some of the larger problems associated with it?

Heck ya, Reuse empty apartment building for the rooms, empty store front for the merchandise, shyt have a entire block "Detroit red light district"I can see the ad campaign "Get Laid In The "D". Also I think with all the empty land in the D they should use some of it to grow pot, legalize it also. Urban farming.

It has been legal since the early 1970s and there has'nt been any problems. There are no brothels in Clark and Storey counties, most are located in the rural areas. The big problem is the illegal hookers who spread diseases and foster crime in the larger areas like Vegas and Reno. The brothel ladies are required to have weekly medicals, pay taxes, and encourage if not require thier customers to wear condoms.Looks like old Harry needs to visit one before he runs his mouth. Good thread maxx.

Agreed. But the US is too dumb, fundamentalist and ideological to do anything that makes this much sense.

Rumor here in Nevada is that Harry got turned down for a freebie; thus, his rant.

I take it you've never visited Amsterdam? ... it might change your opinion...

Or even Paris or many of the THRIVING cities in Germany that have legal red light districts.

It's not as bad as the slippery slope that you make it sound...

LOL! Like casino gaming the pragmatic thought will be that it will be a great idea! Just don't have the prostitution in my neighborhood. Put it in Detroit. Their desperate for any revenue - so why should anyone protest!?

Will anyone ever learn you can't legislate morality ? It's been tried with alcohol, drugs, prostitution all over the world since biblical times. People obey laws they choose.

Sure, that IS true. Nor can you 'regulate' vice which is associated with prostitution and gambling legal or illegal. So, should the doors be flung open for this the commerce of prostitution?

This is a no brainer that for some reason our brainless government does not understand. The church has a lot of money to spread around when they really think were all going to hell and they can save us from ourselves.

A red light district could be Detroits saving grace. Ive brought this topic up before. We even talked about where in Detroit it could be done, as in what area.

I'm saying its a good idea, think about all revenue it would generate. It would take care of atleast a block of the city. Reuse some of the building, and condom sale would go up, lol, I think they should legalize it.

Sorry Gushi, I misunderstood you... I bet it would be more than a block though... more like a district...

every law is an attempt to legislate morality, its just whose morality, or lack thereof you want to make the rules. Do you really think that what stays in a red-light district, stays in a red-light district, or that the mindset that takes a person there will find its way out in real society and affect families, work, etc.

Well stated... but remember if you're against the idea you're a religious wacko or conservative crank! Oh the horrors! LOL!

.... or you've never travelled to Europe to see how things work over there...

This thread reminds me of Mark Twain's famous line.... "travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness..."

do you really think that keeping it illegal keeps that mindset away from "real society" [[what, exactly, is that?) , family, work, etc? better there than having it in the house next door [["brothels" get busted in suburbia quite often), don't you think?

I hear you, Europe is so far more advanced in their thinking. We're much too backwards to implement such a pragmatic option... we'll have to settle for looking on with envy... ALSO the IRS will want their cut too you know [[smile). Ah -- more paper work... yet another division or labor to sort out the 'quick from the dead' in terms of cash flow.

Europe is so advanced, that is why Islam will takeover in 50 years. I wonder if your neighbor's dog craps on your lawn time after time, you just throw up your hands and say it will continue no matter what, lets just find a way to tax it. If your neighbors are doing something illegal, why not call the police. Its self-centered people who want it all their way, yet want to not be touched by the self-centered people who also want life their way.

It's about curbing VD which some religionists think is just punishment from their god even though we have penicillin et al today. And it might make prostitutes less likely to be victims of their clients and certain wacko Bible thumpers. The tax revenue is an added bonus.

Time to take off those anti-Islam/pro-Israel blinders there..... maybe if you go visit Europe once or twice you'll find out that the best of everything is not always found in the USA [[and I don't mean red-light districts).

And you'll be speaking Spanish here in the USA long before Islam ever takes over Europe...... used your ATM or Voice Response System lately??

I would have to disagree, maybe a few hundred years at the least. You only have a few Muslim countries in europe. I do understand that there are Muslims in Europe but for the most part its a Christian continent. I have been to the Muslim area of Europe.>
