I always thought a lot of the development work took place in Highland Park. Which version of the car are you talking about? I believe Chrysler first showed a turbine in a 1954 Plymouth body.

I interviewed some of the original Turbine program guys and had access to some publications that showed that building, it was a small stand-alone building, and it wasn't very old at the time the program was happening. "Guy" is probably referring to the 1963-'65 program with the custom built Ghia bodies styled by Elwood Engel. The Turbine program began in 1954, using stock corporation bodies and continued until 1981, when the government subsidies for the program ended.

just found my screw-up...greenfield not greenwood
this is from steve lehto's book.."shortly after huebner's successful cross-country jaunt in the 1956 turbine plymouth, chrysler announed it would double the size of the turbine laboratory. along with the announcement of the increase in the department, chrysler told the press that it had recently leased a facility on greenfield road in detroit that had formerly housed a company called waters manufacturing"....great photos...thanks...

Sad. I had the chance to drive one when my father [[who worked in heater design at that time) brought one home. I got to drive it around the block.
