Exhibit: Art in Architecture: The Collaborative Spirit of Interwar Period in Detroit

I drove up to see this new exhibit at the Marshall Fredericks Sculpture Museum at Saginaw Valley State University today and attend their opening reception.

Art in Architecture: The Collaborative Spirit of the Interwar Period in Detroit
This new exhibit highlights the Art Deco and classical revival architecture in Detroit from the 1920’s and 1930’s that includes beautiful tile work, stained glass, mosaics and sculpture. The exhibition began with the idea of exploring collaborations between architect Alden B. Dow and sculptor Marshall M. Fredericks, and expanded to look at other buildings and projects. It features objects and documents from the collections of the Cranbrook Educational Community, Detroit Historical Museum, Meadowbrook Hall, Penobscot Building, Temple Beth El, and the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum.

It's worth the drive, especially if you have never visited the Marshall Fredericks Sculpture Museum where admission is free!! Makes a great Saturday road trip, especially combined with a stop at the Flint Art Museum...lunch at Halo Burgers...and dinner in Frankenmuth on the way back!!
