Default M1/Woodward Light Rail public information meetings

Plans are chugging along for a street-level electric train that would run from Hart Plaza to Eight Mile Road. Engaging more Detroiters in the Woodward Avenue light rail transit project is the goal of a series of community forums starting this Wednesday in Palmer Park.

The official public hearings demonstrated great interest in this project, but also many unanswered questions. Transit advocates designed these neighborhood forums to provide residents plain language answers to some of their questions. The public is encouraged to participate in any of the upcoming forums:

    Palmer Park: Detroit Unity Temple
    17505 2nd Avenue, Detroit
    Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011 6–8 p.m.

Highland Park: Highland Park Recreation Center
    10 Pitkin Street, Highland Park
    Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011 6–8 p.m.

    Midtown: Detroit Public Library
    5201 Woodward Avenue, Detroit
    Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011 6–8 p.m.

Boston/Edison: Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church
    9000 Woodward Ave., Detroit
    Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011 6–8 p.m.

New Center: St. Matthew & St. Joseph Episcopal Church
    8850 Woodward Ave., Detroit
    Tuesday, Mar. 1, 2011 6–8 p.m.

Supporting organizations include the Palmer Woods Association, Bagley Community Council, Boston Edison Association, Greater Woodward CDC, the City of Highland Park, Better Detroit Youth Movement, Focus Hope, Faith Tabernacle Church, NAACP Detroit Branch, Wayne State University, UofM Detroit Center, MOSES, Transportation for America, Michigan Environmental Council, and Transportation Riders United [[TRU).
