Back in Town after 3 Years Away

Hi All-

I unexpectedly returned after 3 years away. 1 in DC and 2 in Chattanooga. I've been here periodically so nothing too surprising. Went to the derby girls - people in this town are bored to pay and almost fill cobo for interleague. Drove down gratiot the whole way from the east side. More desolate between 8 mile and eastern market and maybe slightly less scary. Went to menjos- same. Went to pronto- same. Maybe it's this time of year- but I am having trouble finding anything going on. Rental truck company said to go from the south to detroit was 1/3 the price if the route were reversed. Feelings of why am I here....

There is a new alternative theatre on Cass in the former Cass Corridor: http://www.burtontheatre.com/. The Redford Theatre is worth a visit, it's a great night out for $5, http://redfordtheatre.com/.

You just missed two weeks of large crowds downtown, the auto show really did well this year. Hope you settle in to your old surroundings well. I moved back here from Nashville almost 11 years ago, i have very much enjoyed being home again. Sad about the economy though.

This weekend is Shiver on the River on Belle Isle. I went last year and had a great time. Someone posted this in the discuss Detroit tab.

There's a group of 20 Somethings that meets in Ferndale once a month at Affirmations. Have a small group topic then head out for coffee, drinks, dinner at a nearby restaurant. If you're feeling a little lost - it's a good place to pop in just to make friends with others. The Feb monthly meeting is tonight at 7:00pm.
