    "Please Mr. Postman" wasn't Motown's first hit single. It was the company's first number one record.

    By 1961, Motown had already had a few sizable hits.

    I think Motown 1st hit single was MONEY! written by Berry Gordy in 1959.

    You're right it was "Money [[that's what I want)" written by Berry Gordy sung by Barrett Strong in 1959. Followed by "Shop Around" by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles in 1960.
