I heard that NO!bama and the demicans presented an infomercial last night, the republicrats presented a response [[rebuttal?) and the tea-baggers responded to the response. Why hasn't there been an infomercia/rebuttal/response presented by [[real) libruls? Have [[real) libruls been hushed? Banished?

The speech was a good move to the center.A pragmatic person such as Obama understands nothing will get done in DC in the next two years unless there is a move to the center. Again, Obama is not and never claimed to be a liberal, he said he leans left [[his words)

Great question Ive been asking that for years. I know that in Canada and West European countries all five or more parties with elected seats are allowed to debate. Nader and other left of center parties got over a million votes in 00, 04 and 08.Supposedly we live in a free and democratic society....can some of the academics ...the political scientists and lawyers that post here elaborate on this? Why cant-shouldnt ALL points of view be allowed air time on national television?

Pragmatism in one person's vocabulary is 'sell out' in another person's. If you're being robbed and mugged, conciliation doesn't usually work. We'll see how far NO!bama's 'pragmatism' gets him, and by extension us, with people who peg him as a nazi, disbelieve his birthplace, nationality, religion, election and hate his race. The far-right has NO!bama pegged for what he really is - a sweet talker with absolutely no, ahhh, ummm, shall I say, 'gumption'?

He did forget to mention that energy prices will go up, so he can put his green policies in place.

American politics have skewed so far to the right it's ridiculous. Obama is somewhere to the right of Nixon, yet he is seriously dubbed a "centrist." And the batshit-crazy rightists, who would have been laughed at in the 1970s, are now actually taken seriously as merely "to the right." All voices of serious leftism are silenced. Can you imagine somebody actually talking about ending unemployment with public works projects, reigning in the banks, nationalizing a few industries or ending a few of the "military conflicts" we're involved with? Nope, there is no place at the table for them. And if you are out of work, you are out of luck -- unless you're a wealthy banker who needs a leg up.

Watching almost any politician talk these days makes me want to end it all.

I think the presidential debates are put on by a corporation so left of center view points are obviously going to be a threat to corporate power.Its probably the case that most Americans in this day and age have never heard of public works, or care to learn about how our political system works. There are more distractions in the form of popular culture and electronic entertainment, coupled with an apathy and perpetual adolescence. Plus, many Americans are getting info from showboat personality types [[Mark Levin; Bil O'reilly; Glenn Beck; Michael Moore )who scream,clown and berate guests who call in to discuss issues. These personalities, left and right, live in a different world so to speak, and pretend to know what the average American wants and needs.

You seriously think Obama is right of Nixon?
I just post on a couple of political issues in non detroit and a couple of detroit issues that i;m interested in. Thinking I'm posting to agitate or make people angry is wrong.
I just disagree with a lot of the posts here but I will disagree with an idea, not the person, as the many seem to do to discredit someone.
Remember, Obama and the democrats are calling for a civil discourse and he wants to bring people together and be transparent. Can we disagree without being disagreeable.
