Default MTV Show Skins is too inapropiate for younger viewers!

On Monday January 17th, at 10:00pm. MTV released SKINS, a soft pornographic, sexually based teen drama show. The show was based from United Kingdom version of SKINS. The teen drama shows kids and teens not just talk about sex, but doing sex, showing their nakedness, doing drugs and alcohol, throwing while unsupervised parties, saying profane words and playing with themselves. So far the Parents Television Council lobbied congress to investigative MTV's release of SKINS. Taco Bell, who sponsor the show, has pull away. The PTC wants all advertisement agencies to stop indorsing SKINS. MTV has denied PTC comments and said that SKINS teen drama program will show kids, teens and young adults how dangerous peer pressure effects them to the extreme. SKINS in its first American scripted pilot has reached over 3.3 million viewers near the 10 ten of the Nielson Rations scale. Younger kids from 8 to 13 have watched the program. More controversial episodes are on the way in the following weeks.

Any thoughts about the "FAKE" reality program. Can we have SKINS pulled off the air or keep it on.

    WORD FROM THE STREET PROPHET

Because television is the great babysitter to all mankind.

    Neda, I miss you so.

Well Danny piqued my curiosity... and I had to go check it out myself....

I'm far from being a prude... but gotta agree with Danny.... this is not appropriate for teenagers... and not because of the nudity... but the general sleazy promiscuity of the entire show and incessant profanity.... as high brow Brits would say... "they act dead common".

TV show or no TV show, it's the parent's duty to teach their teenagers responsibilities.

I was watching the British version of this show on YOUTUBE... I thought that was the one being shown here... my bad. I haven't checked out the USA version.... so my comments were not directed against the one being shown here.... But USA kids certainly do watch Youtube....

    So what?

There isn't anything on that show that isn't actually happening in every high school.

If you don't want your kids watching that show [[or any other show), pick up the remote and set the parental controls to block it. Better yet, cancel your cable subscription, throw away your TV, and spend some quality time with your kids.

I don't mean to be a dick, but this is a pet peeve of mine. When I was a kid, my parents wouldn't let me watch TV and play video games all day. I never had a video game system, and my parents put a lock on the TV during summer vacation so that I would go outside and play instead of sitting in front of the idiot box all day long.

This is just bad television to watch, period. Kids don't need to be seeing this, and doesn't anyone have a problem with adults watching kids have sex? Ummm - isn't that illegal if it were real? Not to mention downright sick.

I just can't imagine what sort of person finds this entertaining. Sick, crude, wrong. A very sad commentary on society that such a thing is even produced in the first place.

What world are you living in? Seeing it? They're DOING it. They may be doing it in the classrooms during class in some schools. Probably doing it on the school busses. Those parties your kids go to at classmates houses? You bet some of them are doing it there.

The show isn't for me. I haven't watched MTV since the early 90s. It isn't even in my channel scan.

So how does that in any way make it acceptable "entertainment"? I just don't get the connection.

Maybe we should have nude swimming areas at Belle Isle and at the MetroParks... after all people do take baths... right?

Even the Brits are uptight when compared to the Germans and French....

Skins is pretty tame compared to what most every kid sees on the internet.

It might even shock me but I wouldnt be involved in censorship.

I had a bedtime when I was a kid. My folks didnt let me watch some rental VHS movies.

Im more pissed at the violence I see on TV, kids having sex and doing drugs, whats new?

    Nude swim, WORD!

look, i have 2 teenage kids, and let me tell you, i have already put a block on that show. im no prude either but, just like meddle said, they are doing it on the bus and at school and parties, but they don't need a televsion show throwing it in their faces either.

they just had a situation at my kids high school where a 10th grade girl got caught performing an act on a senior just outside the front entrance. I found out about it on facebook in the early afternoon after it just happened!. it's up to the parents to take control. have their kids passwords for facebook and myspace, an occassional peek at their text message, etc. , until they are at an age to fully understand the consequences . also keep tabs on their friends and where the hell they go. hey, i grew up in the late 70's and i know all to well. in the meantime, that show will not be watched at my household.
