Default CCS Student's Kickass Senior Project--Strait Power

Wow, Anthony Reale from CCS really put a lot of time and effort into his senior project--an experimental hydro turbine for generating electricity. Given the Detroit roots, it is called 'Strait Power'.

    A writeup: http://michigantoday.umich.edu/2011/...y&auid=7618790

And his Youtube video of the project: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7iLjMLQbCs

All's I can say is great job--hopefully this becomes something much more than a school project.

That is one impressive senior project. I do wonder how he'll be able to avoid zebra mussles clogging the device, but wow, what an impressive project!

theres been talk of that in the straights just down stream of the blue water bridge in port huron. much higher rates of flow for the water there. more so than niagara falls [[in GPH)...

    hope they do SOMETHING...

I am currently building a test model for further study with University of Michigan. Progress is continuing slow. I am back to a budget of Zero. It is time to get creative. You can fallow my antics a http://straitpower.blogspot.com/

nice work. this is what ive been screaming for for so long...its such an obvious idea whose time is overdue. and im sure theres a way around the zebra mussel issue. that's what trial & error is for. the River's current is a MONSTROUS untapped resource.

Look's very promising. On another note...are zebra mussel's edible?

They are, but you should not eat them. Think of them as a filtration system for the waterway they reside in.

    Pretty kick ass!

I really like how the applications were blown out from residential to industrial applications.

I could just see somebody [[hopefully me someday) going on a camping trip and tossing one of these out into the stream/river to power a light source.

    well done.

I see some serious technical challenges with running an underwater turbine in the Detroit River. Whatever happened to Vortex Hydro Energy Detroit River Project? http://www.myfoxdetroit.com/dpp/news...wer_from_River
