I wonder if SHE might be able to recall what her character called her father in the movie?

[[this is an inside joke, I was at the cafe a few doors down a couple of weeks ago when that question went around...I thought someone was trying to settle a bet!)

To anyone who DOESN'T yet know about the restored Redford Theater...Buddy Smith and I got a quickie tour of it...and the place is simply astoundingly beautiful. It is truly a movie palace with a pedigree.

You owe it to yourself to get out and see it, and this movie [[or one of their organ extravaganzas, or any other event)!

Cheers and more, kudos to the volunteer friends of the Redford Theater...you have made this place very special.

Definitely visit the Redford Theater if you haven't been there yet. It's a wonderful place and an inexpensive night out. I have attended many movies there and you can't beat the price and the ambience. It's an experience instead of just a movie. Anyone considering going - I guarantee will enjoy the place.

Do they still entertain with the organ before showing the picture? They did that when I saw Moby Dick.

A long time ago, in the era of manual choke cars, I attended a showing of an Elvis Presley movie that had the balcony filled.

    She is truly a gem.

The last time I was there was last winter, they still had an organ recital before the movie and during the intermission.

That is worth the price of admission.

I believe that the organ dates back to the days of silent film. My mother, who was deaf, told me that she could feel the organ that accompanied a silent film and read the text frames.

My all-time fave novel and movie!! I like it so much, my animals are named after the characters. I am planning on attending. Maybe I can get my mom to come along. She frequented the Redford when she was young [[walking the 1/2 mile or so to see the show).

Was there another character who used a pet name? I cannot remember what the question was, as with most fiction...it went right over my head.

Aiming for Friday night...skipping yoga to see this!

I'm really looking forward to attending tonight's performance. Don't sit in my favorite seat! And yes, I believe the organ overture begins at 7:30.

Wow....great movie, beautiful venue. I don't think I've ever attended a showing at the Redford when the theatre was that full! Great to see such a large crowd, and that they are selling Sweet Potato cookies from the Sensations place across Lahser!

Attended the 2:00 Saturday showing. It was my first time in the theater, and the first time seeing the movie [[though I have read the book). The place was packed. Organ concert before the movie and during the intermission. I really enjoyed it. I love seeing old movies on the big screen.

My wife chatted with Mary Badham and had her sign a copy of the book. I recommend everyone catch a show there. Next movie is "Arsenic and Old Lace."

went to the 8pm show and it was reported to have been the largest crowd ever.

First time I'd seen To Kill A Mockingbird at a theater. While I am quite familar with the book and film, seeing it with a crowd made this viewing kind of neat.

Afterwards, we went to the cafe next door for coffee and pound cake. A pretty civilized way to spend a frozen Saturday in January.

oh,... did run into a kind of famous ex porn star/stripper and his new gal of 7 months. I was going to ask if he always hung out at the Redford, but thought better of it.

I was at the 8pm showing . It was Good to see such a huge crowd. I like that place enough that going to a regular theatre isn't the same after going to the Redford.I havn't seen the movie in awhile so it was good to see it again. I have to finish reading the book which I never finished reading over 20 years ago.

[QUOTE=gnome;215746]went to the 8pm show and it was reported to have been the largest crowd ever.

John Monaghan was the MC for the evening screening of the film. As I recall, he said the audience that night was the largest since the late 80s. I've been to many films at the Redford over the years and it was an impressive outing. Obviously, it was in response to the appearance of Mary Badham and people's love for the film and her role in it. I didn't realize how much screen time she had in the film and her performance with Gregory Peck complemented his and helped him garner the Academy Award for Best Lead Actor.

For many people it was their first time at the Redford. I'm sure it was a memorable night for them and I hope they return for future screenings.

We sat in the very last row of the balcony...just under the projectors.

    Everything was perfect.

It was easily the longest and most enjoyable inexpensive night out ever. Plus everyone was so gosh-darned nice, polite, and happy to be there.

When the movie started, people actually shut up. Paid attention.

Everyone was there on purpose...and got their chatting and cell phoning and coat rattling and popcorn rustling and candy gouging out of the way during that fabulous organ opening. He was obviously having fun, and it was really cool to watch those who went down to watch HIM play that thing. It had some curious sound effects, most certainly to go along with pre-talkie movies.

The theater was amazing, and the acoustics...even to the back row...were steadily non-intrusive and supportive of the dialogue. And it was the best place to be to feel those low notes from the organ.

Just what this newly-single now-ex-virgin-RedfordTheater, rookie porn-star/stripper needed.

Next time, I'm getting there early enough to buy a fifty-fifty ticket or two.

Eleven hundred people patiently sat through the question-and-answer during intermission.

It was four hours of fun, and I'm sure they sold more concessions-per-person than most theaters do rushing more butts in and out of seats for two showings each in a megaplex.

It was better than any stadium-seating ear-busting IMAX...more storyline and character than sensory overload.

Attended last night's screening as well. Had not read the book or seen the movie before, so it was a good experience.

Not sure on the largest crowd status- Gone with the Wind screening a few years back seemed to have a higher attendance, but it was a good crowd.

A bit odd to have 1100 attendees but only about $700 in the 50/50 pool.

Um, some people didn't buy tickets, it wasn't automatic with attendance.

First I even heard about it was when the one guy said they would announce winners at intermission.

Heck, if everyone only bought one ticket...isn't 7-of-11 participating pretty good?!

And they changed the odds slightly by using two bowls and picking prizes from each, so the drawings always had half the number of tickets to choose from...

It is a nice theatre. One of these years I will actually go to the Stooge Fest. I think it's in March or April.
