    Anyone able to call in some Fishbones carry-out for him?!

    I'm sure Matty knows his favorite order...or should we parade down to the park and goad his shotgunner for a while?!

    I'm guessing Judge Prentice Edwards is off Matty's policital bribe list now.

    Here's a more thorough story:

    I'm glad that the Detroit areas judges are finally not allowing the bribers of politics and those that are supposed be leaders in our society to continue to flout the law. Or at the very least get the typical VIP treatment.

    Too bad the old troll didn't go to prison where he belongs because as anyone who has worked for that bastard knows, he ALWAYS calls the shots. Stamper has always and will always be a good lackey.

    Maybe this will get his attention and goad him into long awaited action.

    This should.

    The judge also ruled that Stamper would remain behind bars until "the DIBC begins to comply with the Feb. 1, 2010 order, or he no longer has the power to comply with the Feb. 1, 2010 order."

    Oh Danny boy, the cell, the cell is calling;
    from court to jail, your sorry ass will wend;
    the days are gone, of writing your own rulebook;
    'tis you must go, Judge Edwards I commend.

    There is actually some good news in the air today. Rich, powerful people do go to jail sometimes. Let's not hold our breath though, we have a new legislature coming in and they may address this with a fiat allowing Stamper to go free. After all, he can't get to Manny's checkbook if he's in jail. NEXT UP: Manny himself. Oh joy. I don't want to get to happy about this. Please excuse my ecstacy for a few minutes.

    I love how he and Maroun even look like villains.

    There is justice in this country. However all Matty has to do is stall forever and he still wins...even if he gets no bridge. He will still have his monopoly.

    Stamper will probably be handsomly rewarded for taking one for the bridge empire. They had to know this was a possibility.

    Matty is pretty old.

    I'm sure 'forever' isn't in his lexicon...

    Going to jail for half a day for contempt of court is an even bigger joke:
    "After a brief conference in chambers with Judge Edwards, both sides indicated they expected the judge would free Stamper possibly as early as later today .."

    I'm just waiting for the News to have one of their hit-writers do a piece on how this is the big, bad, socialist government picking on the lowly capitalist billionaire just trying to make a buck. lol

    At the end of the day, Stamper is just small fish, but maybe this will be a wake-up call. There would be no better and more expensive picture than to see Matty in handcuffs. You know, if he hadn't decided to pick an unnecessary fight with state and national governments, he might have continued getting away with the sh%t he's gotten away with. But, when you poke a few slumbering dragons, you should expect a pretty angry creature when it shakes off its daze.

    Don't go off and get too happy.

    If the Judge really wanted to make a statement, he would've thrown Matty in the clink rather than his underling.

    Throwing Matty in jail might be misconstrued by him as an act of war against Lebanon.

    He doesn't fly the American flag at his home...at least not the last time I drove by.

    How did you drive by? Doesn't he live on the gated part of Provencal, along the golf course?

    You are correct. My happiness lasted only a few minutes as I expected.

    I think thats his kid's home. I worked on it when it was still owned by a Ford. I don't know which wife it was, but after letting the house sit vacant for 5 or 6 years because of jet setting she finally sold it, I know it was many years because I had to clean up leaves that were between my knees and my waist, that covered the whole property.

    I also worked on the house next door... but you can drive through there as long as you look like you belong there, they don't stop everyone at the gate.

    That may be so, but he got me.

    I've got one client on that street, and struggled remembering having to go through a gate.

    I was repeating something told to me by a trusted friend, that Matty flies the Lebanese flag and not an American one.

    I did NOT see it by 'driving by'.

    That was hearsay...and my comment a lie.

    The Detroit News is reporting that demolition of the duty-free gas station has started, enabling Stamper to be released. For the benefit of those of us unable to get down to Fort Street in person, does anyone have photos to post of this work?

    A look at Google Maps for this location suggests that the southernmost pier for the second bridge is sitting where the sidewalk ought to be, so presumably this will have to go, too.

    As someone with an interest in gas-station and truck-stop retailing, it will be interesting to see if business picks up at competing truck stops during the period when Maroun's tax-free store isn't competing for sales with a 55-cent/gallon advantage over other Michigan fuel retailers. Of course the pump price differential is never that great, indicating just how profitable the untaxed fuel sales must be for the Bridge interests.

    Just came up 75 from the south, going downtown. I didn't see it, but I'm guessing his demolition must really be happening! Trucks were backed up past Livernois onto the freeway. You usually only see that on Friday evenings.

    Channel 4 news at 4PM showed demolition taking place...a visual shot from the coptor. Said they were digging up underground fuel tanks.
