Two hours later. Still a massive fire. The fire crew is about to lay a foam cover over the complete plant with some airport crash tenders. This will create a colossal smoke plume. The Motorway A-16, one of the major connections in the south, is closed off now. Also the trains have been stopped, including the high speed link.

Fire service was monitoring the environment for toxic gasses. In some areas sirens went off and people were told to stay indoors and turn ventilation off. At midnight three [[American build E-one Titans) crashtenders of Eindhoven airport sprayed a carpet of foam over the remains of the factory. This created a lot of smoke but in the end killed the main plume. At dawn there were still small pockets of fire going on but the fire crews declared the fire manageable. Just in time I might say. Very close to the fire was a storage of tons of vertilizer. [[and as you know that's one of the key components of dinamite...)

Now the clean-up must start. People are told not to eat their home grown crop [[if they still have some in the garden. It's winter.) and keep an eye on their pets. According to permits Chemi-Pack was allowed to store up to 800 tons of goods on their property. There were about 500 tons. Preluminairy tests have shown that the levels of toxic materials in the air was not life threatening. the last update was from 19:30 hours, that's 15 minutes ago. And still there are some pockets of fire breaking out now and then. But not the size of those massive fireballs.

the cause of this disaster is not known yet.

Call me stupid but does this look healthy?

    Some pictures of the aftermath.

The fallout is different from what is in the air, but both need to be watched. It is amazing the stuff we can take in without signs of toxicity, though.

The Ancient Mayans said that there will be fires an a massive scale. Most People of the old world will breathe poison air.

The clean-up is expected to last.... 2 years! The water which was used to extinguish the fire is unbelievably toxic. And seeing this photo you can understand.

    Pictures.

This is what it looked like before the fire.

Was anyone injured? Who's paying for the cleanup?

That was a positive outcome. No injuries or fatalities.

And just when you thought we've had it all....

    ...HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!

Now a liquid gas train caught fire! And this is no more than 15 miles north from the previous disaster location!

    Live stream!!

I fear for an escalation, although most of the wagons surrounding the fire seem to be empty. But there still seems to be some residu in some of those tanks. The tanker that is engulfed in fire is loaded with Ethanol. The fire started at about 9:30PM, which is 3:30PM Detroit time. It's now 1:30 AM and the fire is still raging.

Railyard Kijfhoek, the orange marker. At the very bottom of the picture is Moerdijk, the scene of last week's fire. Highway A16 is closed off at the moment as well as all train traffic.
