    Default Protect the Sequoias

    For some reason Sequoia Nat. Monument is not a part of the Nat. Park System. It's managed by the Nat. Forest system, and guess what they do? Watch trees get cut down.

    Luckily not all Sequoia's are in Sequoia National Monument.... one of the largest group of leviathans are in the Marisopa Grove in Yosemite National Park... one of the greatest stand of trees in the world... and they fortunately are protected. But yes Maxx that is sad...

    Anyone who has watched Ken Burns series The National Parks on PBS will be surprised to learn that most National Parks in the USA were saved by the tenacity of a few very determined men.... John Muir at the front of the pack.

    But even National Park status is not enough to save virgin land from development. Just check out the Hetch Hetchy valley inside Yosemite National Park... in the 1920s it was dammed to allow water for the San Francisco area....
