Default So who in the 248 hired escorts and is being protected

    http://detnews.com/article/20101229/...370/1409/rss36

This seems very bizarre. I know almost nothing about legal proceedings like this but it seems odd that Federal Prosecutors would select which clients the defense may see based upon area codes.

"Detroit — Federal prosecutors are refusing to reveal customers from Oakland County and the 248 area code who hired hookers from a high-priced escort service but are willing to out clients from Detroit, according to federal court records." and "
Paul DeCailly, the attorney for Miami Companions co-owner Greg Carr, flew to Detroit last week to review the black book. He wanted to see the names of clients from Michigan and Ohio, but the U.S. Attorney's Office said he could see only the names from the 313 and 734 area codes, he said."

Anybody know why this would be done?

Will these names ever be released to the press?

I seem to recall a escort service case from around 5 years ago that involved a black book and the names were never released. The thinking was that just because someones name was in the book it didn't mean that they used a prostitute.
The agency may have sprinkled in some famous names in order to keep the book from ever being released to/by the press.

Could it be that there are famous names from the 248 which might get reported and not the other two area codes? I don't know, just making a guess.

I'm pretty sure the only thing that gives LBP an erection is 'poaching' businesses from other counties in SE Michigan.

Sounds to me like good lawyering. One of the John's called his attorney and his attorney perhaps filed an ex parte motion for protective order. I'm not too keen on federal procedure, but that was my first thought.

Where does Mike Cox live these days?

I would think that NOT providing the full black book -- the full evidence of their case -- would essentially lead to the prosecution being dropped. The limiting of release to just a certain area code is pretty interesting and clearly stinks of a cover-up.

I do not see how a person listed in a book could legally get his name withheld from the discovery process. From being released publicly, yes, but discovery? no way. Unless it happens to be a judge.

I hear that John Ensign's 'john code' is "Sailor."

Or it could be that charges are pending against persons in the 248 area code, and they don't want to compromise the case.

This is much more likely than my knee-jerk first thought.

This will make good business for that service that will assign a 248 area code to people who don't live there.

Funny that... unlike the other Detroit area area codes.... the248 is known as an "overlay" area code.....

The fact that the 248 was protected initially reeks that many influential con's, of the Republican party are being protected.

Let's see what the facts are..,.

In about 1965, I knew Nick Colacacides who wound up hung in the stairwell of his GP Park apartment. The death was ruled a suicide but he just didn't seem like a sensitive guy with problems. His Father owned the Grecian Gardens restaurant. There was a big room in the back with tables. Once, when Nick parked his car in the alley behind the restaurant, I got to walk through the back part. The night manager gave Nick hell in front of his friends for taking us through the back room. I thought at the time that Vitale the night manager was out of place for dressing down the owner's son in front of his friends. A couple of months after that incident the back room of the Grecian Gardens was raided and a similar black book was found with, according to the Detroit News, a long roster of prominent Detroit area patrons. That book sort of disappeared too and those listed were never made public. I believe that Nick was hung as a punishment to his father for allowing the book to be found. My anecdotal experience was that Nick's Father, although the owner, didn't seem to be in control of the operation.

My dad was one of the cops in on that bust.

    From the Detroit News:

"...seized a black book bulging with tens of thousands of customer names, job details and contact information."

What type of idiot would let that info get out?

  22. #22

Probably the type of idiot trying to weasel out of or get their charges reduced.

The overlay to 248 is the little known 947 area code. The recession cut the demand for phone numbers right when it was opened for use. Almost all of the few exchanges available are in Northern Oakland County. You can get a magic jack with a 947 in Southfield. The advantage of this is that you would likely be the first to have the number which means no collection calls from the previous owner!!!
