Vinyl Record - Buyers

Hi All,

I have come into a large [[700+) collection of mostly old jazz records. I wanted to get an idea of their worth and may possibly sell them. Does anyone know of any places that buy vinyl in the area?

I remember having a couple of albums in the 60's [[can't remember who ) but the vinyl itself wasn't black , but a picture/artwork . I know Andy Warhol before he became famous designed some LP jackets making the jacket more valuable than the record inside . Good luck !

I can't think of the name of the place maybe someone else might know...it was located in the basement of the apartment building on E. Forest that burned down...it was on Forest & Cass...the last I heard it moved on Woodward somewhere between Mack and Warren..I think.

This place is great. I go in there all the time. My wife came back from there the other day with like $50.00...she sold some of my old SRC vinyls..mint...totally bummed...she didn't know who they were.

Surely not singing....more like

I do have them recorded digitally via my usb turntable...but they were awesome covers on the real vinyl...never going to be able to replace those...well..if I want to pay up I guess.

I was going to mention ebay as a way to maximize your profit. You'll basically be selling at retail on ebay as opposed to wholesale at a record store. If you don't mind the hassle of listing, monitoring the auctions, and shipping, ebay is the best way to go. The price the store gives you will depend on how much of the product you have is in their stock.

He's got 700 plus records. That's more than a hassle, that's a full time job.

Another possibility- rent a table at one of those record shows.

Good question. I sold my LP and 45 collection on ebay a few years ago [[2,000+ LPS & 1,500 45s). Some were sold individually and more were in larger groups or sets.

Don NOT go to a used record shop inless you are very desperate. They are worse than used car salemen, and will give you 1.00 for an album that is worth 20.00 or more. I took 5 albums that i know were valuable over $15.00 retail to four diff. places and they offered like 1 or 3 dolalrs each. They all lie about value.

Sell them on Craigslist, ebay or one of the other online places or a someone you know.

Do NOT take them to a used record shop unless you are destitute and hard up for cash.
They are worse than used car salespeople and will lie about the value, trust me on this.
Melodies and Memories and Car City are good stores to buy a record but don't sell them anything decent you have, you will get nothing and they will say damn, look what I just got.

If you want the most money you can get,
Rent a table for $ 30.00 and then Sell them at the record show

You can check completed ebay auctions to get an idea what your stuff is worth, or else check out the website Popsike.... they archive past ebay auctions for LPs and 45s. Please send me a Mingus or Coltrane LP for my consulting fee. Any other Blue Note or Impulse records are acceptable, as well

If you have any Blue Notes record labels from the 60's I may be interested. Ditto on the table and record show...you may be able to buy a price guide book...research Ebay for value....happy selling!

I made a fortune on Ebay when I sold two Michael Jackson LP's [[Thriller & Bad) I've been selling a lot on Ebay since I retired.

I am not hard up for cash but more cash is always a good thing :-)
Ebay would be a lot of work, I have looked at doing it that way, slowly but I some of the records I have I cant find historical prices for anywhere. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you have any adivce / looking for something.

You can also check some of the various price guides for relative values, which might help sort out those with more than average value. If you don't want to buy a guide, go to your local book store with a list of some of the records and check out the prices in the guides.

I'm going to chime in [[very late) just in case this dilemma comes up again. There's Stormy Records in Dearborn that will buy rare stuff. Sad to say-Car City is closed. Threads in Hamtramck may buy some items [[R & B, rap, early Electro, etc.). May only be instore credit one gets for these things.
