    Total duration 20 minutes:

    Chris Hedges Endgame Strategy
The game is over. We lost. The corporate state will continue its inexorable advance until two-thirds of the nation and the planet is locked into a desperate, permanent underclass. Most of us will struggle to make a living while the Blankfeins and our political elites wallow in the decadence and greed of the Forbidden City and Versailles. These elites do not have a vision. They know only one word: more. They will continue to exploit the nation, the global economy and the ecosystem. And they will use their money to hide in gated compounds when it all implodes. Do not expect them to take care of us when it starts to unravel. We will have to take care of ourselves. We will have to rapidly create small, monastic communities where we can sustain and feed ourselves. It will be up to us to keep alive the intellectual, moral and cultural values the corporate state has attempted to snuff out. It is either that or become drones and serfs in a global corporate dystopia. It is not much of a choice. But at least we still have one.Chris Hedges is a Pulitzer Prize--winning author and former international correspondent for the New York Times. His latest book is The World As It Is: Dispatches on the Myth of Human Progress.

Oh, and when people start talking about the hedonism and excesses of the Roman Empire just before its fall, don't forget that the last Emperors from Constantine on were nearly to a man all christian.

Depends on how you look at and define what the Roman Empire was. Most people say it ended in 456 BUT in reality, in continued well on until roughly 1453 with the end of the Byzantine [[Eastern half). The Roman Empire went "Christian" based on a bullshit PR ploy used by Constantine to rally the troops at the Milvian Bridge. Had Julian the Apostate not been speared to death at Ctesiphon, you can be certain there wouldn't be Christianity today.

Great logic, Danny. Who is not barbaric when waging war? The USSR fell by extending itself too far and not keeping its people happy.
Danny, my bet is that the American Empire will fall due to the paranoia over Islamic terrorism created by the military industrial complex for their own interest causing the US to over extend itself and resulting in the death of the middle class.

    Madow: GOP Priorities
This latest walk-through though has been frustrating enough to the Democrats who were in that room that the Republicans stormed out of that the Democrats are now leaking to the press exactly what it was they were all talking about when the Republicans got up and walked out.
    From The Hill:
Van Hollen said that the Democrats had floated a plan to change the accelerated depreciation schedule for corporate jets so that they more closely align with commercial jets. He said Democrats had also pushed to end oil-and-gas tax breaks.

On individual taxes, Van Hollen claimed that the Democrat proposal actually would have provided tax relief for more taxpayers. The proposal would have ended tax deductions for those making above $500,000 but would have removed limitations on deductions for those making above around $170,000.

And Constantine was emperor in the early 300s CE, over 100 years before the Fall.
