Biking in winter

Has anyone used the carbide studded snow tires for bikes? How well do they work? I want to continue riding my mountain bike this winter and could use some tips. Thanks.

I used to ride my bike year-round for a couple of years. Yes, studded tires will work WONDERS on ice and packed snow. It's not hard to make your own studded tires if you start with knobbies, and it's also very cheap.

knobbies, thick screws and a bolt-cutter always worked for me. just be careful how far you screw in the screws

I just take turns slow. When you go forward you don't slide that much. You just got to get used to it.

You got it Gannon. I remember living in Aspen where all the Cops had studs. You could hear them comin, I loved that.

No car here, just an old mountain bike with used to be knobbies. I did okay this morning but you know your gonna take at least one spill a year on the black ice if your ridin year round. I fatten up for the cushin startin around September.
