Default Shuttle Busses for the Holidays

I had noticed last year that there was shuttles busses that trasnport people from downtown Detroit ot the IKEA store. I was thinking that there should be shuttle busses that could transport customers from downtown detroit to the malls such as Northland, Eastland, Oakland, and Fairlane during the Christmas shopping season

Ikea pays for those shuttle buses to their store. This is a common service that they provide in many of the markets where they are located.

Though I think it is a cool service, I always wondered, with the physical size of the items I buy at Ikea, how useful a shuttle bus could truly be.

I guess it would be handy for that 6-pack of cinnamon rolls.

From the picture, it looks like they are using buses with storage--like greyhounds, with the storage bays under the bus.

I'm not positive, but I remember hearing that larger items are shipped to your door, so you don't really bring anything back with you, just tag your items, pay, and go home.

Uhh there already are busses that do this. Canton is an opt out community. Let IKEA pay thier own frieght if they want to locate in a community that does not participate in a regional system.

You can get transportaton from Eastland to a local hospital after you shop, and there is plenty of room for packages in the ambulance...

Did Hudson's and Crowley's pay for the Saturday-only "downtown shopper" express buses that DSR used to run into downtown? When that was running, we used to drive over to Chalmers and Outer Drive to catch the bus at 9am on Saturdays. it ran from there to the front of Hudson's without any intermediate stops.

No worries about packages as Hudson's delivered.

I had thought of it as being a good idea up to the recent shootings. Many visitors come to Detroit's downtown district and wonder where are the shopping. It is an embarassment to tell them that our downtown doesn't have any retail stores so you will have to catch a cab, rent a car, or jump on an unreliable violent bus to get to the nearest shopping center.Visitors as well as downtown residents could be accomodated if there were shuttle busses that will take them from downtown detroit to the mall of their choice. Each mall could pay for the services and have shuttles busses that will escort potential shoppers. That way the suburbs could compliment the city especially downtown. Visitors could go out to the malls to shop and come downtown to play.
