Default John Conyers Reads Playboy for Inspiration on his way DC

While November’s election brought a tsunami of change to Michigan policies, some incumbents are untouchable. So untouchable, apparently, that they openly read girlie magazines on their trips to and from Washington. Detroit Congressman John Conyers was caught on camera in a late July flight to DC this summer ogling a Playboy magazine.

You can be sure he's reading it for the articles -- or to masculinify his image.

what about North Korea attacking South Korea?

what about Pelosi and her obstructionist ways to block PrezBO from accomplishing anything in bi-partisanship with the GOP?

what about the U.S. Carrier Group thats headed to the Yellow Sea?

are you saying Conyers reading preferences take priority over whats REALLY important? next ill be hearing about how the dancing show is going on or what big pro-sports athlete is going to do now that hes in trouble for speeding or some other nonsense...

really, who cares about john conyers and his magazines....

Yeah, it was pretty convenient... He's practically posing for the "hidden" camera.

If you had to wake up next to Monica again in 37 months, what you you be reading ??

I sure hope this is simply a publicity shot for the obvious reason. Otherwise it's just plain rude for anyone to be reading a porno mag next to total strangers.... Let alone someone in his position.

Speaking of our dear MonCon, I would have thought by now she would have caused enough of a situation at the Cup Cake Prison to get her put were she truly belongs. However 2 months and not a peep. I guess I miss her.

Has John ever "woken up next to" Monica? Now that would be some interesting evidence.

So I'm wondering where this weird idea came from that John Conyers "untouchable" status is somehow a horrifying thing. He's actually earned it by being reelected for well over 40 years now and becoming one of the most senior members of the House, all of which he's achieved by working and voting very consistently in ways the majority of his overwhelmingly Democratic constituency supports. Isn't that what a representative democracy is supposed to be about?

Also, I can't be the only one who finds the attempt to smear John Conyers by showing him reading Playboy to be silly. Not only for the obvious reason, but also because Playboy is like my grandfather's porn [[come to think of it though, that does put it right in Conyers' demographic). In a world where one can see pretty much the same things Playboy shows on cable TV any night, or call up hardcore porn for any sexual proclivity on the internet within seconds, the sight of an old man leafing through a Playboy is hardly shocking to anyone but the most determined fogey. And the thought implied by the article, that if only Conyers' constituents knew that their representative was out there looking at Playboy [[horrors!), they would just throw away the 4 decades plus that he's represented them and vote the dirty old man out of office is nothing short of laughable. Really, hardcore right-wingers, is that the best you can do?

Now, Michele Bachman... there's some porn for you.

I bet that about 100% of his constituency would be hard pressed to name one piece of legislation that he has sponsored in those 40 years.... aw come on... 40 years is a long time... he must have gotten at least 1 piece of legislation that he authored passed..... [[sound of crickets...).

Just because he has had name recognition for 40 years , doesn't necessarily mean that he's been efffective.

And now, I'm going to post pretty much the same response I did the last time you posted almost the same thing back in August:

Here is a list of bills that John Conyers has sponsored or co-sponsored since the beginning of this year.

    http://www.opencongress.org/people/b...yers#sponsored

As you can see from the numbers at the top, he rates in the top eighth of the House in bills sponsored and sponsored bills passed. He's been right in this range since the Democrats retook the House a couple of terms ago.

Additionally, for many decades now he's been one of the most prominent politicians in the country supporting a whole list of policies, such as single-payer universal health care for all Americans, opposing and calling for an end to our military invasions and occupations of countries halfway around the world, and cutting the defense budget in favor of addressing the needs of our actual citizens. These positions are all extremely popular with his constituents, and many people across the country, but have been shunted aside by Congress and the people who run the Democratic party in recent years in pursuit of more corporate-donor-friendly positions.

I live in his district and vote for him. Your statement is insulting and borderline racist/classist. Better stick with your Legos and history of old buildings.

Racist? Where is this coming from, now I am insulted.

Ok I have to ask the question, I thought he was gay? It seems to be the worst kept secret in the city. I honestly cannot imagine a straight man willing to be married to Monica let alone be willing to have sex with her. I know he is not out of the closet and probably will never be out of it, but if it says he is reading it for the articles I would tend to believe him on that.

Nice try calling me a racist DetroitPlanner... but anyone with at least 50 posts and half a brain... knows that you calling me out as racist is full of doggie doo... although after re-reading my comment... the part where I said that 100% of his constituency doesn't know what he's done... that WAS a poor choice of words.... let me correct myself to say that I don't think he will leave as much of a legacy as say John Dingell did for Detroit [[and it's not even his district)...

    I don't understand the uproar.

Now, if he'd been reading "Swank," that would be a different story.

What if it had been Otis Mathis reading the Playboy on the plane? The mind boggles. Stewardess fist-bumps all 'round.

Oh, wait -- Otis can't read. But he can sure as hell beat off to the pictures [[although, because he's illiterate, he'd miss out on the fact that the centerfold enjoys long, hot baths, and lists cheesecake as her guilty pleasure.)

Dingell, when he croaks in office.

As head of the Judiciary Committee Conyers was ready to bury GWB - pulled together a huge report detailing everything - but Pelosi quashed under the guise of striving for a more bipartisan tone for that term.
