Default Did I read this correctly?

"Fairy tales begin with 'once upon a time' but truck drivers' stories begin with 'you ain't gonna believe this s***'."

That's how felt when I heard this 'deal'.
Washington has put 20 stealth fighter jets worth $3 billion on the table, as well as a pledge to fight any international resolutions against Israel. In exchange, it wants Israel to halt construction in the West Bank for three months, with a US promise not to ask to prolong it further.
    http://rt.com/news/us-israel-settlements-freeze/
Let's see... if they halt construction for 90 days, no mention of what happens after that so presumably they may continue settlement construction without objection, 'Washington' [newspeak for us taxpayers] docilely doles out $3 billion of our most advanced weaponry?

Now I am admittedly pro-Israeli, have lived there and understanding their security issues and hope and pray for a peace settlement, but 'I can't believe this s***."

For $3 billion we get nothing more than a glimmer of a dream, to stop construction for 90 days? Why isn't money of that scale so instantly available to start re-construction in Detroit?

Another interesting take on the matter:

Eva Harow from the Yesha Council, which represents Jewish settlements, says Obama is just trying to mend his reputation after losing the midterm elections.
“After Obama’s midterm loss, where he sees that Americans are very upset with his domestic policy and it does not look like it is going to get better any time soon, then he is going to go offshore, as it were, and figure out how to make some kind of success of his regime, of his presidency somewhere else,” she told RT.

Can we just admit Israel to the union...make it the official 51st state and get it over with? Do they really need the billions on US taxpayer dollars each year? This is an issue that pisses off even some of the most die-hard teabaggers. It is about time they walked on their own. Of course, if we cut aid to Israel, we would have to do the same for the Egyptians...and Jordanians. There is a small contingent of Israelis and American Jews who honestly feel that without Israel, the USA would not survive...guess that is why John Q Public needs to pony up a few bil each year.

While I to believe that Israel has the potential to become a just country ... the neocons, apologist and the Zionist Christians are ruining it. The key to their success is through the peace camps...Jews for Justice etc.. we have to show tough love for the country..and hold it accountable for it's behavior and understand it's concerns... Oppression will not resolve terrorism...it just enables the behavior. It is time for the US to stand strong and commit to a fair and balanced peace... why should the Palestinians applaud this latest slap...when those planes will or can be used on them. Peace will be viable when we stop letting AIPAC and it's dominance of the debate here be open to the justice all parties over there deserve.. Tikkun Olam is a start ...when we heal this fractured part of the world our safety will increase.. The Israelis and Palestinians deserve a viable peace...but that won't happen as long as the right wingers, BIBI and his foreign minister continue to propose nothing more than apartheid like conditions.. and the moderate Palestinians which are not jailed have a voice... moderation and a viable peace is the only answer... not this status qou... And then Cantor will really have the back of Israel when he holds them accountable.,, and stop blaming victims of oppression for their anger and refusal to go away.

Some conservatives are criticizing Pres. Obama for sending troops to Afghanistan while they don't question at all the billions we have given to Israel for the last 60 years. And the fundie Zionists teach their children that Israel was given to them by their god which is supposed to explain why the world turned the clock back for the Jews when they allowed them to throw Palestinians off land they had lived on for centuries. I'm sure there are Native Americans who believe that parts of the U.S. are sacred to them, but no one is turning the clock back for them.

America should know by now that no amount of money or goods we use to bribe either side in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will resolve it. The billions would be put to better use by being burnt in fireplaces to keep people warm in the cold Winter then to go to arm Governments so they can continue to intimidate and threaten one another in an ongoing and endless conflict.
