Gannon, its probably the same guy. Occasionally, one of my friends who I grew up with will bump into him, and acknowledgement is reduced to a nod. I intentionally left out some other details, some quite public back then, hence the low profile.

Free Press investigative reporter Howard Kohn broke the story. As a result there were several contracts on his life issued by the mob and DPD who were high-level and mid-level heroin traffickers, respectively. The Free Press buckled under pressure from "business interests" to fire Kohn. He became a reporter for Rolling Stone where he wrote award-winning series on Karen Silkwood and Patty Hearst.

in the annals of reporters on Detroit organized crime, Howard Kohn is comparable to Jerry Buckley, except that the mob assassinated Buckley.
