Saw the video and was not really impressed. It wreaks of ruin porn to me. If the purpose was to be informative, it comes far too late. This video continues to perpetuate the belief that the entire city is a burned out, hollow manifestation of Hell [[not upstate).
What is the definition of ruin porn?
In the link Islandman provided, Celeste Headlee mainly chides journalists for engaging in "ruin porn" when they focus on decay and fail to show a larger picture of functioning neighborhoods that might be adjacent to the ruins.
But what if you're not a journalist? Is the person behind Detroit Funk a journalist? What if he or she is an artist? Why can't the Detroit Funk video stand on its own and be seen as one person's take on Detroit's ever-expanding housing crisis or decay or whatever you want to call it?
typical, tired, uninteresting as a political statement , crisis alert, or art.
This video is boring. It looks like every other youtube video I've ever seen about Detroit.
Show me the video with the thousands of awesome houses in Detroit, or thousands of awesome faces that go from white to black. Now that would be cool
